Explanation of the Sutra "The Clear Intention of the Able One". Explanation of the Sutra "The Clear Intention of the Able One". Explanation of the Sutra "The Clear Intention of the Able One". Regarding the aspect of lineage, it is said in the Sutra of Ten Dharmas: "Just as fire is known from smoke, and water from waterfowl, a wise Bodhisattva knows lineage from signs. Not being rough or uncouth, completely abandoning deceit and trickery, being utterly pure towards all sentient beings, that is a Bodhisattva." Thus it is said. Furthermore, regarding devotion to the Dharma, it is said in the Nirvana Sutra: "If refuge is sought in the Three Jewels, a state of fearlessness will be attained." Thus it is said. In detail, it can be known from the Sutra Requested by the Noble Fierce One and the Sutra of Taking Refuge in the Three, etc. Relying on noble individuals can be known from the Sutra of the Great Vehicle Teaching of Wisdom, etc., as well as the Arrangement of Trees, the Buddha Avatamsaka, etc. Regarding the generation of Bodhicitta, it is said in the Arrangement of Trees: "Son of lineage, in short, all the Buddha's teachings and all the Buddha's qualities, as many as there are, so many qualities and benefits are to be seen in Bodhicitta. Why is that? Because from this arises the circle of conduct of all Bodhisattvas, and all Buddhas of the past, future, and present also arise from this." Thus, and so on, it is extensively explained in the Sutra section. The root downfalls are to be seen in the Sutra of the Essence of Space and the Compendium of Trainings. Furthermore, regarding conduct, the first is self-maturation, from the Explanation of Intent: "Lord, how many are the bases of training for Bodhisattvas?" Avalokiteshvara said six: generosity, discipline, patience, diligence, meditation, and wisdom. Thus it is said. The first three should be known as the training of higher discipline. Meditation is the training of higher mind. Wisdom is the training of higher wisdom. Diligence is the all-pervading practice, thus it is said. And so on, it is explained very extensively. Among these, generosity is found in the chapter Requested by Near Round and the Sutra of Perfectly Gathering All Merit, etc., and can be widely known. The three types of meditation are non-conceptual and peaceful.
