Because neither abides, being devoid of entity like an illusion. This is what the Madhyamikas say. The teacher Dignāga said: By words such as 'non-existent,' all designations are refuted. This also refers to such a case. Then, on the seventh page, the sixth chapter. Then, on the sixth line: 'How could there be transformation?' and so on. I and phenomena such as form are utterly non-existent. If they do not exist, how could they manifest and arise? Therefore, all phenomena are shown to be the nature of utter non-existence of manifestation. Manifestation is emptiness. This is what the great Madhyamikas say. Then, on the fourth page, half of the fourth line: 'The nature arising from aggregation is non-existent.' Nature refers to one's own essence. What is one's own is nature. It is not from another through transformation. All phenomena such as form arise dependently, not independently. Those that arise dependently on others are of others, not of themselves. Therefore, all phenomena are of the nature of non-entity, hence called non-nature. Therefore, the emptiness in which all imputed phenomena such as form have ceased is not dependent arising, nor dependent on others, so it is reasonable that it is the nature of all phenomena. Therefore, the nature arising from aggregation is non-existent. It is said that what arises from aggregation is not nature. This is a synonym. Because it arises from aggregation, it is called arising from aggregation, which means arising from the collection of causes and conditions. This is what the great Madhyamikas say. Then, on the second page, slightly less than the fourth line: 'Impermanent, not separated from anything.' According to the Hinayana perspective, impermanence refers to the arising, separation, and destruction of phenomena. But here, the definition of impermanence is not like that, but refers to not being separated from anything. That is to say, in this Mahayana, the meaning of impermanence is the meaning of non-existence. Because it is said so, the word impermanence
