Now, to elaborate further. Now, to elaborate further. The previously mentioned phrase, "Whoever desires to fully awaken to all phenomena in every way," refers to the thought of a Bodhisattva. Now, that very thought, along with its causes, results, and so on, will be extensively and distinctly explained. This will be shown in three ways: the three vehicles with their results, the great nature of a Bodhisattva, and the great nature of a Buddha. Then, in about five more lines, the five words up to "should train in the Perfection of Wisdom" indicate the three vehicles with their results. "Should train" means turning away from the Hearers and Solitary Realizers, and it is said to be the "faultlessness" of a Bodhisattva. Others say, "Faultlessness" refers to the Tathagatagarbha. Thus, there are three states: the faultlessness of complete defilement, the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva, and the faultlessness of Dharma. The Tathagatagarbha is called Suchness. It also has three aspects: the impure state on the ground of ordinary beings, the pure and impure state on the ground of Bodhisattvas, and the pure state on the ground of Tathagatas. The impure Suchness is called sentient beings, and it is also called the faultlessness of complete defilement. The state of purity and impurity is called Bodhisattva, because the state of enlightenment is pure and the state of sentient beings is impure. This itself is called the faultlessness of a Bodhisattva. The pure state is called Tathagata, as it says in the Sagaramati Sutra: "O Sagaramati, the term 'Tathagata' is a supreme term for perfect Suchness." Therefore, this itself is called the faultlessness of Dharma. The Tathagatagarbha, called sentient being, refers to completely abandoning the impure state of complete defilement. Called Bodhisattva, it refers to the state attained through the pure and impure faultlessness of a Bodhisattva, which is the Bodhisattva's...

It is called "without," meaning that a Bodhisattva wants to attain the flawless state of Suchness, that is its definition. This is what the great Madhyamaka scholar Vasubandhu, who is like the second Buddha, said. One should study the Prajñāpāramitā. Because it possesses excellent qualities. A Bodhisattva who has entered the wisdom of the ground surpasses the grounds of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas by four qualities: namely, the difference in faculties, the difference in practice, the difference in wisdom, and the difference in result. This is what the Madhyamaka school says. One should study dwelling in the irreversible ground, as well as the Joyful Ground, etc. Among them, the irreversible ground refers to not possessing lineage, being seized by evil friends, having little compassion, and fearing the long-lasting and unbearable suffering of samsara. These four causes lead to the inability to generate Bodhicitta, etc. Bodhisattvas do not have these four causes, therefore it is the irreversible ground. Bodhisattvas are devoted to the benefit of sentient beings. One should understand the various changes in the minds and behaviors of all sentient beings, and what they believe in. One should understand all wisdom, that is, merely understanding the absence of self in the person. The wisdom of a Bodhisattva is understanding the absence of self in both the person and phenomena, therefore one should suppress (afflictions) and study through this wisdom. One should study the gate of Dhāraṇīs mentioned earlier, as well as the gate of Samādhis such as Heroic Progress. Then, after one more line, one should study the Prajñāpāramitā. The reason for saying this is that the minds of Śrāvakas and Pratyekabuddhas when giving alms are accompanied by desire and conceptualization. Because it will produce the result of desire and is done for one's own benefit, it is not pure. The mind of a Bodhisattva, which possesses the merit of rejoicing, is without desire, without conceptualization, is not the object of signs, and can accomplish the benefit of oneself and others. Because of these qualities, it is superior, so it can suppress (afflictions). Similarly, it should also be applied to the aggregate of morality, etc. This is what the Madhyamaka school says. After about eleven lines, for the benefit of all sentient beings, even without resources, one should give a small amount of alms.
