Chapter Two: The Chapter on Bodhi. Chapter Two: The Chapter on Bodhi. Now, concerning the result of the complete transformation of the Bhagavat Buddhas, who are free from all defilements and abide in the uncontaminated realm, the meaning of enlightenment, which is the nature of realization, has three aspects: a brief presentation of the categories of the subject matter to be explained; a presentation of the method of explanation in a summarized form; and a combination of these, explained in detail. Among these, the categories of meaning are: the explanation begins with the eight aspects of the meaning to be fully understood, which are the object to be fully known, the stainless Suchness, the ultimate result, and the Great Bodhi itself. That is, the previously mentioned Dharma-dhatu, which is naturally pure, is liberated from all adventitious defilements and abides in a state of complete transformation with two purities, should be understood as the very nature of Bodhi. The means of attaining that dual purity is the practice of uniting the equipoise of non-conceptual transcendent wisdom and the subsequent worldly wisdom, which is the meaning of the cause. From the ultimate perfection of familiarizing oneself with those wisdoms, the complete removal of all defilements, including the obscurations of afflictions and knowledge, along with their predispositions, is the meaning of the result. By being free from the obscuration of afflictions, one transcends all contaminated deterioration and attains infinite uncontaminated wealth, thus accomplishing the perfection of one's own benefit. By being free from the obscuration of knowledge, one engages without obstruction in all things, accomplishing the perfection of benefiting others, which is the meaning of the action. The basis for accomplishing these two perfections is possessing inconceivable and immeasurable qualities, which is the meaning of possession. That Bodhi itself, which possesses qualities, is the profound Dharmakaya because it is difficult to fathom; it is the vast Sambhogakaya because it possesses many qualities such as power; and it is the great Svabhavikakaya Nirmanakaya because it only performs the benefit of others in accordance with their capacity. Being well distinguished in three ways is the meaning of entering. Those three bodies are also the same as the time that space exists and the time that beings exist.

Entering and abiding is the meaning of permanence. The way those are, is not the realm of experience of anyone other than the Buddha, and being difficult to realize is the meaning of inconceivable; thus, it should be explained with eight meanings. Thus it is said. To summarize, thus, the Dharmadhatu is naturally pure, free from adventitious stains to be abandoned, possessing two purities, is the meaning of the very nature of reality; the means to attain it, practicing the path of Shamatha and Vipashyana, is the meaning of the cause; from meditating on the path, being free from the stains of the two obscurations, is the meaning of the result; abandoning the obscurations, accomplishing the benefit of oneself and others, is the meaning of the activity; the basis of those, possessing inconceivable qualities, is the meaning of possessing; that is also the essence-body, the enjoyment-body, and the emanation-body, the meaning of entering through the distinction of the three bodies; those are also permanent as long as beings and space exist; the way the ultimate is, is the meaning of inconceivable to ordinary people; these eight meanings each establish the ultimate result in the Buddha. Thus it is said. Although there are eight in the detailed explanation, since the first two are explained together, there are temporarily seven meanings: from purification and attainment is the meaning of the essence and cause; being free from stains is the meaning of the result; the benefit of oneself and others is the meaning of the activity; its basis is the meaning of possessing qualities; the distinction of the three bodies is the meaning of entering; as long as they exist, those are permanent; the way it is, is the meaning of inconceivable. There are two meanings of essence and cause: briefly indicating the way to attain purification, and explaining it in detail. Among them, the brief indication is: the nature of the mind, from the beginning, is luminosity. Thus, from the definitive meaning scriptures, whatever is said, that, like the sun, should be known, the realization of the clear reality, and the two abandonments that are naturally pure like space, are possessed. That is also, previously, in the state of sentient beings, obscured by adventitious stains, the obscuration of afflictions, and the obscuration of knowledge, like thick clouds.
