The Root Teachings of the Six Great Volumes Ztsa34: The Pratimoksha Sutra for Monks The Pratimoksha Sutra for Monks Introduction to the Pratimoksha Sutra The Pratimoksha Sutra for Monks. In Sanskrit: Pratimoksha Sutra. In Tibetan: Soso Tharpa Do. Volume 1. Homage to the All-Knowing One! Whose sweet fame is renowned as a banner in the three realms, whose sound of the sacred Dharma proclaims the lion's roar, the All-Knowing One, who has attained the treasury of jewels, whose feet are touched by the crown jewels of Brahma and Indra. Having crossed the suffering ocean that has no bottom or end, I bow with my head to the lord of beings. In the midst of the assembly of noble ones, I shall explain the basis of the All-Knowing One's teachings, the vessel of jewels. The Buddha's Vinaya is like a vast lake of the great snowy mountains, its depths unfathomable, the heart and essence of all beings' dwelling, which is this Pratimoksha. This (Pratimoksha) is the supreme guide of the king of the sacred Dharma, the guide of all Dharmas. This is the great merchant house of the monks' trading assembly, the merchandise of discipline. For those seized by immoral conduct, this is the medicine that dispels suffering. This is the iron hook for the two-legged youth who is deluded by youth. This is the means of crossing from samsara, which is deeper than the ocean. This is the certain water-channel bridge for going to good migrations. This is the path that defeats the afflictions, the supreme guide of the king. This is like the foundation of the ladder for entering the city of liberation. 'When I have passed into Nirvana, this (Pratimoksha) will be your teacher,' the Self-Born One (Buddha) praised the assembly of monks with reverence and diligence. 'The sound called 'Buddha' is also extremely rare in this world. Obtaining a human body is extremely difficult, and ordination is extremely difficult. Likewise, for those who are ordained, it is extremely rare to be fully endowed with discipline. Even if the discipline is completely pure, it is very difficult to find a good friend. The appearance of a Buddha in the world, as well as the human body, ordination, and the full endowment of discipline, and the rarity of finding a good friend, if these are obtained, then for those who wish to benefit the wise and wish to make it bear fruit, they should strive to listen to the Pratimoksha. Monks who are subdued and self-controlled, the unchanging Buddha, those who desire liberation, should always guard the Pratimoksha. Even in billions of kalpas, hearing, holding, and remembering the Pratimoksha... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

寿命终尽之人,如同soka(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思)般逝去,剩下的时间也所剩无几了。

Rare is the attainment of the Dharma, and exceedingly rare is the practice of it. Happy is the arising of the Buddhas, and happy is the teaching of the Dharma. Happy is the concord of the Sangha, and happy is the austerity of those in concord. Happy is the sight of the noble ones, and happy is association with the virtuous. If one does not see the foolish, it is always happiness. Happy is the sight of the virtuous, happy is the sight of the learned. Happy is the sight of the Arhats who are liberated from rebirth. Happy is entering the river of happiness, happy is the person who is accustomed to the Dharma, happy is becoming wise, happy is the exhaustion of pride. Those who are steadfast in practice and have subdued their senses, who grow old in peaceful monasteries, and those who are learned and spend their youth in the forests, their lives are happy. Those who have reached the end of their lives, passing away like soka(藏文,梵文天城体,梵文罗马拟音,汉语字面意思), and the remaining time is short. Those who have reached the end of their lives, old age and death are approaching, and the Teacher's doctrine will also decline, therefore, those who have reached the end of their lives should practice with diligence. The Bodhi of the Tathagatas, Arhats, and Perfectly Awakened Ones, and other virtuous qualities corresponding to it, the aspects of Bodhi, should all be attained with diligence. The Sangha of the Blessed One's disciples is small in affairs and small in actions, what should the Sangha do first? Ask the venerable ones if they are well and pure, and after asking, it should be reported. For the Shakya Lion (Shakyamuni Buddha), joining the ten fingers in reverence, recite the Pratimoksha Sutra, for the sake of taming (beings), listen to me. After hearing, one should do as the Great Sage (Buddha) said, and even for the smallest faults, one should fear and strive to correct them. One should always strive to tame the mind, which is difficult to control like a wild horse, the Pratimoksha precepts are the sharp hundred-nailed reins. Those who can restrain themselves through words and do not transgress the precepts, they are good steeds, and will surely triumph in the battle of afflictions. Whoever does not have these reins and can never be satisfied with desires, they will be disturbed by the battle of afflictions, unable to abide, and wander about. Venerable monks, please listen, today the Sangha will hold the fourteenth or fifteenth Uposatha, if the Sangha is ready and permits, please allow the Sangha to hold the Uposatha today and recite the Pratimoksha Sutra. This is the request. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
