These are the final teachings. From the *Madhyāntavibhāga-bhāṣya* (Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes), this is the third chapter, called 'The Chapter on That Alone'. This is the fourth chapter, called 'The Chapter on Cultivating Antidotes'. To counter bad rebirths, to counter the arising of craving, to counter the root (of afflictions), to counter non-ignorance, and to enter the Four Noble Truths, one should cultivate the four mindfulnesses. If one fully understands all aspects of the unfavorable and the antidotes, then to abandon them, four kinds of diligence will arise. Abiding therein, one will be capable of all tasks. Abandoning the five faults and cultivating the eight applications, this arises from the cause of the teachings. The five faults are: laziness, forgetting the instructions, dullness, excitement, non-application, and application. The eight applications are: abiding, abiding therein, cause, result, not forgetting the object, recognizing dullness and excitement, applying to abandon them, and truly entering into quiescence. Generating (wholesome qualities) that accord with the factors of liberation, namely, aspiration, effort, pliancy, not forgetting the object, and discriminating without distraction. Because the unfavorable is weak, the powerful result is in the future. The faculties and the powers each have two aspects of ascertainment. The nature limb, the support limb, the third is the emergence limb, and the fourth is the benefit limb. Three are the non-affliction limbs. Herein, the basis, the place, and the nature have been taught. Three are complete cutting off, understanding, and making others believe. To counter the unfavorable, there are the eight limbs of the path. View, discipline, reducing possessions, wanting to express to others. Afflictions and near afflictions are the power (of the unfavorable). Conformity, inversion, conformity with connection and inversion, as well as non-inversion, inversion, conformity without connection, these are what should be cultivated. The objects, mental activity, and attainment of the Bodhisattvas are therefore superior. The place of the cause, entering, union, the declaration of the result, what should be done and what should not be done, the difference, and this is the highest of the highest. Faith and entering, definite arising and prophecy, declaration and empowerment, as well as merit and benefit, these are declared for accomplishing the task. The *dharmadhātu* (realm of phenomena) has three aspects: impure, impure and pure, and pure. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Various methods are applicable. From these, how is it most appropriate? Wanting to establish the Pudgala (Person), it is necessary to state the maturation as a vessel, and the power due to that. Desire, increase, and complete purity, these are the four fruits in order. The latter is the basis of the former, achieved through habituation and completion. Concordant and discordant aspects, separation and difference, Superior and unsurpassed, these are other fruits, in brief. In the 'Distinguishing the Middle from the Extremes', the chapter called 'Cultivating the Antidote', is the fourth chapter. Unsurpassed Unsurpassed itself is accomplishment, object of focus, and true accomplishment, is considered the teaching. Accomplishments are sixfold, namely the perfections. Superior and attention, Concordant Dharma, abandoning extremes, and difference, no difference. The nature of twelve superiors, vast and long-lasting, for the sake of benefit and inexhaustible, continuous and without toil, Freedom and complete mastery, beginning and obtaining, cause-congruent and accomplishment, are considered superior. Therefore, by the meaning of superior, ten perfections are established. Giving, ethics, patience, diligence, Meditation and wisdom, skillful means, aspiration, power, and knowledge, these are the ten perfections. Action is conducive, does not harm and endures, merit increases and is able to enter, Able to liberate and inexhaustible, constantly entering and certainly enjoying maturation. In the Great Vehicle, how are phenomena established? A Bodhisattva (Enlightenment Being) constantly attends with three wisdoms. Realm as the basis and entering, thereby things are accomplished. Therefore, it should be known to be fully in accordance with the ten practices of Dharma. Writing, offering, giving, hearing, reading, and receiving, Explaining and elucidating meaning, remembering and meditating. The nature of these ten practices, is an immeasurable accumulation of merit. For the sake of superiority and inexhaustibility, for the sake of benefiting others without fatigue. Non-distraction and non-inversion, transformed into concordant Dharma. Arising and entering the object, similarly, experiencing taste, sinking and agitation. An idea with confidence, Attention and self-grasping, and a small thought is distraction, those with intelligence should know.
