Purifying the obscurations of body, speech, and mind. Purifying the obscurations of body, speech, and mind. div6 General explanation due to necessity. Third, purifying the obscurations of body, speech, and mind, there are two aspects: a general explanation due to necessity and a specific explanation of the preliminaries. First, the general explanation. From the Ornament of Clear Realization: There are two necessities for this, to be examined by the distinction of common and supreme. This means that by purifying the sins and obscurations of the three doors, and by reversing the attachment to samsara, one will not regress and will transcend suffering. From the Clear Expanse: The preliminaries of body, speech, and mind, should be known to have three necessities: common, special, and ultimate. This means that the complete purification of the obscurations of the three doors is a common necessity, the reversal of attachment and non-regression to samsara is a special necessity, and the liberation of the three doors into the three kayas is considered the ultimate necessity. For the sake of these three necessities, the preliminaries of the three doors should also be distinguished. Specific explanation of the preliminaries. Purification of the body. Second, the specific explanation of the preliminaries, there are three: purification of the body, purification of speech, and purification of mind. First, the preliminary of purification of the body. From the Ornament of Clear Realization: From the preliminary of the body, the causes of individual actions cease, together with the vajra posture, the purification of the body is beneficial to the mind. This means that if the key points of the body are touched, the clarity and turbidity of the mind can be distinguished. There are two vajra postures, standing and sitting. The former is: the two heels together with the soles touching, the ten toes planted on the ground, the two knees spread outwards, the spine straight, the two hands joined at the crown of the head without touching, the elbows bent, the throat pressing down on the Adam's apple. With contraction, visualize the body as a blue, burning, three-pointed vajra. In this way, the body will feel pain and be unable to stand, so the body naturally relaxes, thereby generating warmth and the mind remains in a non-conceptual state. At that time, maintain that state. If you feel tired from the previous sitting posture, then the latter unchanging vajra posture, the body is straightened like a vajra. In this way, the moving winds cease. The soles of the feet together cause the male, female, and neuter winds to disappear, remaining in a state of great luminosity. The heels pressed against the secret place cause the basis of desire to disappear. Joining the palms at the crown of the head is said to purify the key points of the body, so it is a sitting posture.
