It is not in appearance, nor in the depths of the ocean, nor is it helpful to enter the mountains. Thus it is said. It is certain that the end of all beings is death. From the moment of engaging in action, whether day or night, life is constantly diminishing. If there is no additional increase, how can I not face death? As it is said, life has no addition but only subtraction, that is the key. Therefore, in a letter to a student, it is also said: From the night of first entering the womb, from then on, all beings in this world, without deviating even a step, are approaching the Lord of Death. As it is said, one's own life is impermanent in every moment and continuously. Therefore, like a stream flowing down a steep mountain, or a sheep driven into a slaughterhouse, and a person being led to the execution ground. All paths are blocked by the Lord of Death, enjoy yourself without hesitation. Thus it is said. Like this, not only is it certain that one will die, but also when one will die is completely uncertain. Sharawa said, the teacher Vasubandhu said: If the sound is unpleasant, the lifespan can be a thousand years; if there are two, then it is halved. Here it is uncertain, and finally, ten years and the initial ones are immeasurable. Thus it is said, because the sound of the north is unpleasant, the lifespan can be lived for a thousand years. After that, even if he has self-grasping, but because there is no attachment, it seems that he is reborn as a god. In general, the lifespans of men and women in the three continents are not fixed. In particular, the lifespan of Jambudvipa is not fixed, so it is also impossible to determine when one will die. Abiding in the midst of the conditions of the Lord of Death, like a candle in a red wind. Like a candle in a wind or a bee about to run out, because there are many causes of death, it is also impossible to determine when one will die. Some die in the mother's womb, some die at birth, some die while toddling, some die in childhood, some die in youth, some die in adulthood, some die in middle age. To be able to live to old age and weakness is just a matter of luck. We now think that we are young and will not die so easily. But the situation of dying in the mother's womb, we have also experienced a lot. We now think that such a thing will not happen, so we do not do what should be done, but instead do what should not be done. Thinking "This I will do today, this I will do next time, this I will do slowly," the Lord of Death, holding a club, peeks from the side, with red eyes.

With the words, "Answer anger and displeasure with laughter," as said in the letter sent to the disciples, it is said that one does not know when one will die. At the time of death, from the Bodhisattvacharyavatara: "Though I lie on my bed, surrounded by relatives and friends, the feeling of the pain of death, only I alone will experience. When the messengers of Yama seize me, what use are relatives and friends? At that time, only merit is a refuge," or, "The flesh and bones that are born together, will decay and separate into different things, what need to mention other loved ones," as it is said, even this body that has come together with one's own consciousness and from the mother's womb will also separate, what need to mention enjoyments and relatives? Therefore, other than the Holy Dharma, nothing else can save. Therefore, death is bound to happen. Also, Putowa said, "What will I become tomorrow or the day after!" As it is said, one does not know when one will die, the thought that I will not die now is always inverted. In terms of one's own nature, tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, and the next life, one does not know which will come first. That is to say, one month, half a month, ten days, and the next life, one does not know which will come first. Even if strict precautions are taken, if one gets a cold or other illnesses, there is no guarantee that one will not die. In short, after birth there is death, because those who are born are bound to have old age, sickness, and death. Therefore, even if one prays, "Do not age, do not get sick, do not die," what use is it? Or, Sharawa said to the Khampa merchants, "Just as you merchants stay and travel on the road every day, the birth and death of samsara is also like that." As it is said. At the time of death, this corpse will also "The body ends in ashes, ends in dryness, ends in decay, ends in impurity, without solidity, decomposes, decays, and scatters, know that it is of such nature." As the teacher said in the Letter to a Friend, if cremated, the corpse will turn to ashes, or the corpse will change from swelling to dust, all the way to decay. Therefore, relying on these, one should also contemplate impermanence, Sharawa said that in India, he went to the cemetery and saw the bones of others.
