First, the salutation. As it is said in the scriptures: \"Having saluted with great reverence to all the Buddhas of the three times, their Dharma, and the Sangha.\" Here, there are two explanations: the necessary meaning and the meaning of the words. First, the necessity of saluting the Three Jewels, the objects of faith, before composing a treatise is twofold: to avert obstacles and to ensure the completion of the work, and to conform to good manners. As Sharawa Chenpo said: \"Jowo possessed the virtue of gaining faith through knowledge of the Three Jewels. The distance from Vajrasana to the capital of Sindhu was not far. Whenever he traveled, he would bring the stupa that is now in Sangpu Temple with him. As soon as he felt uneasy, he would immediately create a mandala, arrange offerings, and perform prostrations and offerings. After praying, he would regain his composure and continue his journey.\" Like this, when composing this treatise, which has great significance in opening the eyes of all Tibetans, he must have performed grand prostrations and offerings that were no less than what is written. The necessity of prostration is also fulfilled, so there were no obstacles in writing. Until today, all of Tibet is full of faith, listening, teaching, and practicing. Jowo wrote the words of salutation to the Three Jewels at the beginning of the treatise to show all those who have taken refuge in the Three Jewels that before doing anything, they should offer prostrations and offerings to the Three Jewels, and start after praying, so that they can succeed. Even sinful things can succeed. All the sinful people who go to Bende Tsakha and Serkha do the same, so they experience success. All those who perform magic are also like that. Some only recite their own deity's heart mantra, and some recite their own deity's heart mantra and also make offerings and recitations to the Three Jewels. If there are these two situations, then the former cannot influence the latter, but will be influenced by the latter, which has been verified. Therefore, we initially, from the time of ordination, have been committed to cutting off the cycle of rebirth. At the time of generating the great Bodhicitta..." } ] ============================================================

Since the endeavor is to accomplish omniscience for the benefit of others, in order to bring all of this to completion, one should always prostrate to the Three Jewels, make offerings, and pray. Recite about a hundred rounds of heart mantras, or read about one section of scripture, or practice a little bit of mindfulness, but do these things beforehand. Having done these things, even if the main task of the activity is not accomplished, it is not in vain. The main thing is only that. If one can believe in the greatness of the Three Jewels and rely on them, then for both removing obstacles and accomplishing desired goals, there is nothing more powerful than this, but if one pushes with force, this will also seem difficult. Virtuous people are the previous noble ones, who did so from the time they first initiated liberation and omniscience, and in accordance with that, one who wishes to be included among the virtuous should also do so, it is said. Secondly, the meaning of the words is: The object of prostration is all the Victorious Buddhas, Bhagavat, residing in the ten directions and three times, and their teachings, the sacred Dharma, and the Sangha of hearers, solitary realizers, and bodhisattvas who personally practice it. The one who prostrates is Jowo Je himself, who, knowing the qualities of the Three Jewels, with thoughts and actions endowed with faith, prostrates with great reverence, it is said. Here, the object of prostration, the Buddha Three Jewels, is referred to as "Victorious" because previously, after the Buddha Bhagavat attained complete perfect enlightenment, on the way to Varanasi, he met the wandering ascetic Nirgrantha. When he asked, "Who are you, where are you going?" (the Buddha said), "From sins and afflictions, I am free from pride, therefore, Nirgrantha, I am the Victorious One." Thus, naming himself, this is the characteristic of the perfection of abandonment. Regarding this, Sharawo's teaching is: Only the Buddha has abandoned these two together with their imprints. All the noble ones who have gone far from karma have only refuted these two. Those who have attained dhyana and formless attainments have suppressed the afflictions of the lower realms, but have not suppressed the afflictions of their own realms. Even the Hearers and Solitary Realizer Arhats have the ignorance of their own realm, and the seeds of sin remain unexamined.
