The Collected Teachings of Gampopa GM18: The Words of Lord Dagpo Lhaje - A Mirror Illuminating the Whispered Lineage 1-17-1a (ཙ) Homage! The Words of Lord Dagpo Lhaje - A Mirror Illuminating the Whispered Lineage First, one must understand the posture of the body. The Words of Lord Dagpo Lhaje - A Mirror Illuminating the Whispered Lineage 1-17-1b Homage to the noble Lamas! When practicing the instructions, one should understand as follows: First, one must understand the posture of the body. Cross the legs like a chessboard, straighten the spine like an arrow, place the hands together below the navel, and settle the body in this posture. Then, the body has three channels. At the junction of the three channels, settle in equipoise. In the central channel, directly in line with the navel, visualize a red 'Ah' (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah) like a line. Then, exert strong effort. 1-17-2a In this way, this instruction of the Lama, by repeatedly practicing it, warmth and bliss will arise powerfully in the body, and luminosity will naturally dawn in the mind. This extraordinary path of means of the great Naropa, if given to those without fortune or karma, violates the samaya! Homage to the Guru! The order of transference through generation stage is as follows: Press down the upper air, draw the lower air up the spine, and dissolve the 'Ah' (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah) at the navel into the 'Hum' (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum) at the heart. Imagine the 'Hum' (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum) is like a churning stick. Practice this as much as it benefits you. Lower the 'Hum' (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum) to the heart, and lower the 'Ah' (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah) to the navel. Then, at the time of transference, visualize the Yidam deity in the sky in front of you, visualize 'Kshya' (藏文:ཀྵྻ,梵文天城体:क्ष,梵文罗马拟音:kṣa,汉语字面意思:unchanging), make a 'Ha' sound, and gently press the ribs with both elbows. Press down the upper air, draw up the lower air, dissolve the 'Ah' (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah) into the 'Hum' (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum), and recite many 'Ah's (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah), drawing the 'Hum' (藏文:ཧཱུྃ,梵文天城体:हुं,梵文罗马拟音:hūṃ,汉语字面意思:Hum) upwards through the aperture, and dissolve it into the Yidam deity. This is the instruction for Tummo and Phowa, the heart essence of the precious Lama. 1-17-2b I prostrate at the feet of the noble Lama! In this fathom-long human body, the navel is the wheel of emanation, in which resides the letter 'Ah' (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah), representing the unborn. From the 'Ah' (藏文:ཨཱཿ,梵文天城体:आ,梵文罗马拟音:ā,汉语字面意思:Ah) arises the channel representing the unborn, the Avadhuti. It pierces upwards to the aperture of Brahma, and downwards to a point four fingers below the navel. The characteristics of the three channels are: the right channel is the wisdom channel, representing the purification of the object of perception; the left channel is the method channel, representing the purification of the subject of perception. Kundalini is said to be the abandonment of both subject and object. Tummo is certain to arise from diligent practice, dreams and bardo are certain to arise from aspiration, phowa is certain to arise from focus, and the karma mudra is certain to be an example of a person. This is the instruction. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The master said that there are six times when wisdom arises: during the union of male and female, during the transition from left to right, during the intermediate state after death, during intense anger, and during the arising of clear light. Instructions on Dream Yoga Homage to all the venerable Lamas! There are four aspects to the instructions on dream yoga: seizing the dream, recognizing the dream as illusion, completely training in the dream, and meditating on the suchness of the dream. First, seizing the dream: When falling asleep, focus the mind on a single point between the eyebrows and fall asleep. When waking up, fall asleep with the thought 'I will recognize the dream as a dream.' When one is able to seize the dream, various unpleasant dreams will arise. Seizing the dream means that during the dream, one recognizes everything as a dream. Even if one has not completely seized the dream, there will still be attachment, such as fear of falling off a cliff. This is seizing the dream. Completely training in the dream means that because there is no body, the mind can be manipulated in any way. One can view the heavenly realms, view Bodh Gaya, touch the sun and moon with one's hands, jump into cliffs, water, and fire, view other lands, and fly without obstruction. This is training in the dream. Recognizing the dream as illusion means that during the dream, because there is attachment, one believes the dream to be real, but in reality it is not. Since there is no substance, how can there be fear, etc.? Therefore, how can there be a body in an illusion? If there is no body, how can there be fear? Because there is no fear, one recognizes the dream as illusion. Meditating on the suchness of the dream means meditating on appearance and emptiness, clarity and emptiness, or bliss and emptiness. The benefit of doing this is that meditating once now is better than meditating seven times at other times. This is meditating on the suchness of the dream. So, what should one meditate on at the time of death? Just as one meditates in the dream, one should meditate in the same way at the time of death. In this way, one can enter the clear light of the bardo. After that, one will not generate attachment or aversion to one's parents, and will realize Mahamudra. If one wishes to take rebirth, one should strongly pray to be reborn in Sukhavati. The instructions on dream yoga are a precious mind training. The Non-Dual Wisdom Great Bliss Body Homage to the Great Bliss Body! In order to awaken all sentient beings to the Non-Dual Wisdom Great Bliss Body that is inherently present within them, I will now explain the three methods: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
