That is to say, that is a person with the nature of having few afflictions. So it is said. Or, for those who practice equally, although they also have all the signs of practicing greed and so on, those practices are not as great and strong as greed and so on. It is obvious that they can become equal if there are causes. Or, the signs of a person with few afflictions are being unclouded, having pure faculties, accumulating merit, having great faith, having a subdued mind, doing virtuous deeds, and having qualities. So it is said. The object of those two is, from meditating on ugliness to counting breaths, whichever object gives rise to joy, meditate on that object. So it is said, and that is also a suitable object. The object of those who are dominated by greed and so on is only determined separately. With few afflictions, because the time is bad, it is quick, and with quickness one can realize that the mind abides. With equal realization, it is because it is not very long. With prevalence, it is because it is long. Among those afflictions, one should also know the prevalence of the root, the prevalence of the three, and the prevalence of the two. For those with few and equal afflictions, the mind can abide even when focusing on the body of the Tathagata and so on. Thus, the teacher Kamalashila also said that there is no certainty about its object. Its meditation should be looked at elsewhere. Among them, being unclouded means not being clouded by the three obscurations: the obscuration of karma, the obscuration of afflictions, and the obscuration of maturation. Among them, the obscuration of karma is the five inexpiable sins, and other heavy karma done deliberately, the maturation of karma has not arisen, and it obstructs the arising of the path. Among them, the obscuration of afflictions is that the afflictions are very great, the afflictions are very long, and those that are practiced in this life cannot purify the object of purification. Among them, the obscuration of maturation is that in whatever place of birth, one does not enter or travel on the noble path, and in whatever place one enters and travels on the noble path

Even if maturation manifests there, at the time of birth there, one will become foolish, mute, and communicate with gestures, and will not be able to understand all the meanings of the Dharma that are well-spoken and poorly spoken. Among these, the first is purity, with extremely pure discipline and right view. Among these, extremely pure discipline should be understood in ten ways as before. Among these, right view is: being endowed with faith, being endowed with aspiration, being free from deceit and deception, and having unwavering and unhesitating diligence in the meaning of the Dharma that has been well-considered. Whatever is endowed with view will not be taken away from this Dharma and Vinaya. Being endowed with aspiration is: having faith and not being afraid or alarmed by the inconceivable power of the Buddha and the Buddha's Shravakas, the inconceivable places of birth, the profound teachings, and the unpredicted things. The view that is free from deceit and deception is: being upright there, having an upright nature, practicing as instructed, and showing oneself as one is. Starting from the fact that all phenomena are impermanent, suffering, empty, and selfless, one thinks well about the meaning, measures the meaning well, and examines it closely. Therefore, one is unwavering, unhesitating, free from two paths, and particularly excellent. These four views that are aspired to are called right view. Accumulating merit is: having the accumulation of merit as previously explained in detail. Again, in brief, there are four types: the accumulation of merit, the accumulation of wisdom, the accumulation of previous lives, and the accumulation of this life. Among these, the accumulation of merit is: having many favorable conditions and resources that arise now, being able to find virtuous friends, and having no obstacles when striving diligently. Among these, the accumulation of wisdom is: being able to tame one's mind, being able to understand all the meanings of the Dharma that are well-spoken and poorly spoken, and teaching the Dharma that is in accordance with it.

It is the teaching that explains the meaning, and one will obtain the subsequent teaching. Among them, the previous (cause) refers to the previous accumulation of the roots of virtue, by which one obtains the complete maturation of the senses as if awakened. Among them, the present life (cause) is like this: desiring virtuous Dharma, similarly the complete maturation of the senses, the discipline of precepts, guarding the senses, and so on, extensively explained as before. Among them, having great faith means having no hesitation or doubt towards the teacher, generating faith and joy, and just as with the teacher, so too with the Dharma and the training. Such as these, extensively explained as before. Among them, a tamed mind means: by it one is able to quickly grasp the Dharmas, and for a long time not forget the Dharma and meaning, and is able to quickly realize the Dharma and meaning. Among them, making merit means: by it one is able to obtain beautiful form, pleasing appearance, elegance, long life, upright speech, great power, possessing fame, obtaining a share of merit, obtaining Dharma robes, and so on, being revered by kings and others and regarded as a teacher. Among them, so-called possessing qualities, one should know that qualities refer to having few desires, and so on. It is in accordance with the adornment of natural asceticism as explained, and in accordance with such reason, these should be known as the characteristics of a person with weakened desire.
