The sense-sphere of the eye, of the ear, of the nose, of the tongue, of the body, of the mind, of the form, of the sound, of the smell, of the taste, of the touch, of the dharma. The eighteen elements are: the eye element, the form element, the eye-consciousness element, the ear, the nose, the tongue, the body, the mind, the consciousness element. Dependent origination is: external dependent origination and internal dependent origination. External dependent origination is: from the seed comes the sprout, from the sprout comes the leaf, from the leaf comes the stem, from the stem comes the bud, from the bud comes the heartwood, from the heartwood comes the flower, from the flower comes the fruit. The six causes are: the elements of earth, water, fire, wind, space, and time. Internal dependent origination is as follows: conditioned by ignorance, actions arise; conditioned by actions, consciousness arises; conditioned by consciousness, name and form arise; conditioned by name and form, the six sense-spheres arise; conditioned by the six sense-spheres, contact arises; conditioned by contact, feeling arises; conditioned by feeling, craving arises; conditioned by craving, grasping arises; conditioned by grasping, becoming arises; conditioned by becoming, birth arises; conditioned by birth, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and despair arise. Thus, this entire mass of suffering arises. When ignorance ceases, actions cease; when actions cease, consciousness ceases; when consciousness ceases, name and form cease; when name and form cease, the six sense-spheres cease; when the six sense-spheres cease, contact ceases; when contact ceases, feeling ceases; when feeling ceases, craving ceases; when craving ceases, grasping ceases; when grasping ceases, becoming ceases; when becoming ceases, birth ceases; when birth ceases, old age and death, sorrow, lamentation, pain, distress, and despair cease. Thus, this entire mass of suffering ceases. The causes are the six elements: earth, water, fire, wind, space, and the consciousness element. These should also be seen as five aspects, namely, impermanent and non-eternal.
