The difference of views. Yeshe De. The difference of views. Yeshe De. The difference of views exists. The differences in views, such as those who assert the existence of external objects, as well as the Three Vehicles and Three Bodies, etc., were heard from the Khenpos, and the meanings that arose from the scriptures and treatises were briefly noted down. Acharya Nagarjuna composed the commentary on the Madhyamaka Karika, called "The Lamp of Wisdom," and also composed the "Heart of the Middle Way." Furthermore, the intermediate Khenpo Shantarakshita, relying on the treatise on Vijnanavada (Consciousness-only) called "Yoga Practice" composed by Acharya Asanga, established Vijnanavada in accordance with that system in conventional truth. However, in ultimate truth, he also composed a Madhyamaka treatise called "The Ornament of the Middle Way," which explains that consciousness itself is without inherent existence. Thus, two slightly different Madhyamaka treatises emerged. The one composed by Acharya Bhavya was called the Madhyamaka of the Sutra School, and the one composed by Acharya Shantarakshita was called the Madhyamaka of Yoga Practice. What Acharya Nagarjuna and Aryadeva composed is as it appears in the Holy Prajnaparamita and other texts. If form and so on do not exist, like a rabbit's horn, and it is only consciousness that appears as such, then these have been non-existent from the beginning, because there is no basis for mistaking them as form. Therefore, it is not permissible to say that consciousness appears as such because of that. Furthermore, if the mind itself appears as such without a basis, then a rabbit's horn and the son of a barren woman, and so on, should also appear. If, as a reason for the absence of an object, gross things are broken down into particles, and even particles have directional parts, therefore it is not established, so it is Mind-only, then, when looking at the moment of consciousness, there is also an object because the characteristic of the general is explained. In general, things arise dependently, so in conventional truth, there is arising just like an illusion, but in ultimate truth, it cannot arise from itself, from others, from both, or from no cause, because it is said to be without inherent existence. Therefore, both Madhyamaka schools rely on this. Among them, the system of the Madhyamaka of Yoga Practice establishes Vijnanavada in conventional truth.

It is in accordance with the view of mind-only, because the consciousness knows the object, and the object itself is the nature of consciousness. Because there is a connection, it can be understood through self-awareness, but if it is thought that the object is external, then because there is no connection with consciousness, it cannot be understood. The appearance of external dependent origination is like seeing things in a dream, similar to the appearance of mind itself without an object. As the Lankavatara Sutra says: "External forms do not exist, my own mind appears as external." In reality, if the mind is analyzed with reasoning that is free from the nature of one and many, its existence cannot be established. Why? If the object itself is the nature of consciousness, then either the mind also becomes many, like the different objects have many forms. Or, like the mind, the object will not become many kinds. Therefore, one should rely on mind-only to understand that external objects do not exist. Relying on this Madhyamaka principle, one should also realize that the mind is also without self. As it is also said in the chapter of the Noble One Who Transcended the World: "O sons of the Victorious Ones, the three realms are only mind, and the three times are also understood as only mind, and the mind is also understood as without beginning or end." The Lankavatara Sutra also says: "Relying on mind-only, do not investigate external objects, abiding in suchness, one should also abandon mind-only, having abandoned mind-only, one should also abandon the absence of appearance, the yogi who abides in the absence of appearance, he sees the Great Vehicle." It is said, therefore, this Madhyamaka principle will become a meaningless fault. Therefore, since things cannot arise, arising is impossible. Saying arising is just a false name. Saying only mind-only, external objects do not exist, and consciousness appears as an object, this is also unreasonable. Why? Because the object itself is the nature of consciousness, the object will also become conscious. Or consciousness itself is form, and the mind will also become unconscious. Or, like the object has many forms, the mind will also become many kinds. Or, like the mind, the object also
