Not knowing the place of the virtuous, elsewhere the world is afflicted. Whoever learns just one verse, when the guru teaches the disciple, whatever is given becomes debtless, such a thing is not found on earth. Whichever guru gives one letter, and does not pay homage, will be born hundreds of times in the place of crows, and will be born with leprosy and blood stains. Wisdom is learned from books, but if not learned from the guru, it is like a pregnant prostitute, not beautiful in the assembly. The guru of Brahmins is fire, the guru of lineage is Brahmin, the guru of a wife is her husband, the guru of all is the unexpected guest. Some friends are like garlands, some friends are like cotton trees, some friends are like Mount Meru, some friends are like the earth. Friends like garlands should be abandoned, friends like cotton trees, friends like Mount Meru should also be abandoned, one should rely on friends like the earth. The nature of the red lotus, and the nature of the holy one who benefits others, and the nature of the unloving non-holy one, these three are naturally accomplished. Who made the thorns sharp? Who drew the patterns of wild animals and birds? Sugar cane, sweet wood, honey, etc., all these are accomplished by nature itself. Where people are arrogant like drunken elephants, where there is no difference between horses and donkeys, where there is no distinction between young children and old women, how can a virtuous person dwell there? In any place where there is no wise person who understands everything, a jewel born from the ocean is not sold there. A priceless jewel of clear water, a cowherd says it is worth three dung balls. A swan is not beautiful in a flock of crows, a lion is not beautiful in a flock of foxes, a thoroughbred horse is not beautiful in a flock of donkeys, a wise man is not beautiful among fools. Merit increases among those with virtue, among those without virtue, merit becomes a fault, the water of a river is originally very sweet, but when it goes to the ocean it becomes undrinkable. Merit is accomplished through diligence, diligence resides in oneself, without diligence and learning merit, others proclaim that one has merit. Merit is the most excellent of all, ancestry is useless. All people should pay homage to the all-pervading one, worshiping the wealth god is the right path. The root of Dharma is the king, the root of Dharma is the monks and Brahmins, from the root comes the fruit.

A child is born. Therefore, do not harm the root. The fruit of Dharma is the king. The flowers are ascetics and Brahmins. Fruits are born from flowers. Therefore, do not harm the flowers. The king is the tree, the ascetics are the root. The ministers are the branches, the villagers are the leaves. If the root is protected, the tree will not decay. Therefore, protect the ascetics and Brahmins well. Even if everything depends on others, The ruler of men should protect the ascetics and Brahmins. Dharma, wealth, friends, and fame, Are obtained from properly supporting ascetics and Brahmins. The wisdom of King Canaka, After carefully examining all the treatises, Enjoying offerings like the gods, Will especially transform into wisdom. For the wise and learned for liberation, Whoever studies this treatise, And having studied, abides in it, Will obtain glory and virtue. Enemies cannot defeat him, And there will be no fear of disease. In the morning and in the evening, The king should recite this. Whoever thinks well of the meaning of this, And follows it as it is, His kingdom and land, Will always increase. The son of the glorious Lala Katya, Extracted from the treatise on law, On the ground without the wealth of hearing, Thinking like a blind man, he did this.
