The Treatise on the Conduct of King Chanakya. The Treatise on the Conduct of King Chanakya. In Sanskrit: Chanakya Raja Niti Shastra. In Tibetan: The Treatise on the Conduct of King Chanakya. Homage to the Three Jewels! Homage to the Lord of the Three Realms! Homage to the Omniscient One! By properly understanding certain things, one can benefit people. Now, I will extract and explain the treatise on the conduct of kings from various sources. If one learns this treatise, one will be able to accurately know what should be done, what should not be done, what is virtuous, and what is not virtuous, just like a famous person who preaches precious Dharma. It will bring universal fame and one will not encounter poverty. One should stay away from slander that may cause small losses, proclaiming the faults of others, and causing discord. All Dharmas should be listened to, and what is heard should also be remembered. What one does not like for oneself, one should not impose on others. Abandon arguing, slander, looking at what should not be looked at, holding grudges with friends, and being friendly with enemies. Associating with the holy, speaking with the wise, and being friends with those without greed will not lead to weariness. Relying on actions and deeds, befriending enemies at the right time, and fighting with friends at the right time, the wise should spend their time in this way. Chanakya said that by knowing just a few things, one can understand everything. Now, I will explain the fundamental meaning in detail. Do not argue with others, do not covet the wealth of others, do not mock others, do not desire the wives of others, and do not live in the homes of others. Even if someone is an outsider, if they can bring benefit, they are a relative. Even if someone is a relative, if they cannot bring benefit, they are an outsider. Those who bring benefit are like medicine in a monastery, and those who do not bring benefit are like diseases that arise in the body. One who applies benefit is a relative, one who nourishes is a father, one who listens to instructions is a servant, one who gives birth is a seed, one who is pleasing is a wife, one who brings happiness is a son, one who is trustworthy is a friend, and where one lives is a home. One who is skilled at managing a household is a wife, one who speaks sweetly is a wife, one who shares life and death is a wife, and one who does not stray from home is a wife. Always bathe, perfume the body with incense, eat a little and often, and speak sparingly.

She always does that. She is a goddess, not a mortal. Always auspicious and prosperous, Always fond of Dharma, Always respectful to her husband, Always with a smiling face, Always speaking sweetly, Always enjoying desires in due season. Always doing good deeds, Always eating beneficial food. All these actions, Will increase good fortune. Whoever has such a wife, She is a goddess, not a mortal. What kind of wife speaks unpleasant words, Is full of dirt and likes to quarrel, Always talks back, She is an old hag, not a wife. What kind of wife has ugly eyes, Is particularly fond of going to other people's homes, Is shameless and of bad nature, She is an old hag, not a wife. What kind of wife is clever, capable, and clean, Feels disgusted when she sees delicious food, Hides herself and respects her husband, She is said to be the embodiment of a goddess. What kind of wife understands reason, Follows her husband, Is content with little, She is the goddess of wealth. A treacherous friend, a bad wife, A servant causing trouble in the house, That is a snake in the house, Undoubtedly, it is the lord of death. Seeing a snake in the house but ignoring it, Treating a patient but not taking care of one's body, An enemy falling into one's hands but letting him go, The pain in the abdomen is unbearable. This is the first chapter of "The Code of King Chanakya." Wealth is guarded for the sake of poverty, A wife is guarded with wealth, With wealth and wife, One should guard all of oneself. For the sake of the family, abandon one, For the sake of the city, abandon the family, For the sake of the country, abandon the city, For the sake of oneself, abandon the lands. Living in hell is better, But living in a poor family is not like that. In hell, sins will be खत्म (Tibetan, Devanagari, Romanized Sanskrit, Literal Chinese meaning), But in the house, sins will increase. When a wise person lifts one foot, The other foot should be firm. Without carefully examining other places, Do not abandon the original place. One should abandon a place without livelihood, And also a place where there is harm even with livelihood. One should abandon a miserly king, One should abandon a treacherous friend. What wealth can be obtained from the hands of a miser? What friendship can be obtained from a treacherous and jealous person? What can one who knows how to harm the virtues of others know?
