When a great being declines, those who are not great do not respect him. Even if only a fraction of the moon remains, the powerful still revere it. If someone causes harm, rely on those who offer benefit, the powerful and the great-hearted. Even when impoverished, if one has the mind to give, it is a sign of a great being. The words of the virtuous are sharp, like being eroded by alkaline juice. The sweet words of the wicked are like the fruit of the cedar, sweet but causing diarrhea. Bestow kindness without expecting gratitude, do not beg from the lowly, but give with great faith to the poor and humble. One who skillfully reconciles matters is a virtuous person, known by only one or two out of a hundred. One who can cut off with punishment can also benefit. The sun can dry things up, and also bring rain, but the moon cannot. Not seeing the two benefits, is that not a child? What then does the wise one do? There are two kinds of blind people: those born blind, and those blind without wisdom. If diligent study of scriptures is without benefit, then it should be stopped, for it is diligence without meaning. Without medicine, the illness subsides; taking tonics is useless. Speaking should be prudent, not with harsh words; appropriateness is beautiful. The balance for measuring weight is neither too high nor too low. Most who are naturally unruly do not benefit others without coercion. Slander is like human feces, suffering is like a poisoned arrow. Even if the wicked do good, what good can be said? Having seen it, one should abandon it. Even a precious jewel with qualities will never arise in the wicked. Those who wish to follow the world should know all means of livelihood. If one does not know the vows of the Dakinis, then one knows nothing of importance. Among beings, these two are happy and without reliance: those who have abandoned all desires, and those who possess all that they desire. A great being's actions accumulated over eons can be destroyed in an instant by the wicked. Water gradually accumulates to grow crops, but fire can burn them in an instant. A deceitful person among fools who attains high status is not a great being. Like a star in thick fog, the sun will never shine clearly. Naturally pure and endowed with merit, even among a retinue of women, the mind is peaceful. In peaceful forests of monasteries, tigers and leopards are not peaceful. Associating with the unruly will lead to ruin, this saying is true. Where is there happiness in playing with poisonous snakes?

Becomes. Whose nature is extremely impure, The vows of evil people are also like that, Like a hunter dressed in a saffron robe, Killing mountain deer after befriending them. The wise should always first, Accumulate for the sake of taming, Like gold that has not been refined, It will not be suitable for work. Giving to beggars causes depletion, It is not begging that brings Dharma and fame, Likewise, respect arises for livestock. Not beggars, all beggars, Evil, deceitful, sweet-talking ones, Act like a razor. Hand movements and other actions, Like the sound of a peacock is also an action. The fool, with the clarity of the wise, The meaning of above and below is not lost. One with eyes who enters the path, Their steps will not be in vain. Power, wealth, lacking virtue and faith, Is it foolishness or does contempt arise? A blind person who does not recognize pearls, What will happen if they do not cherish them? The king's grace and the minister's power, Those accomplished through skillful means, Through the power of firm bonds, The threat of swords can also be severed. Having mastered all the scriptures, If one does not put them into practice, Like holding a lamp in one's hand, A blind person cannot see the path. Without being biased towards anyone, One should not be overly attached or hateful. Consuming food of the same taste, It is said that one will not get sick. Constantly abiding in the middle way, Is praised by the wise. The sun is greatest when it rises, Reaching the center of the sky, it becomes moderate. Abandoning a woman of noble birth, The wealth of a king is like a prostitute. The land that surrounds also, Powerful ones can also shake its parts. Likewise, wealth is acquired in fragments, The virtues of the wise are known only by the wise. In the city, those who are flawed and practice wrong paths, Are as numerous as grass. Not seeing the good, though oneself is great, Even with virtues, one does not believe. The water of the ocean is vast and boundless, Who would believe the turtle in the well? Through various doors of practice, Some are evil and necessary, not for great beings. A mirror made from a wooden staff, Relies on support, not gold. Even if separated by other holy beings, It is tamed by one's own virtues. Like an untamed iron rod, It can be split but cannot be tamed. Not understanding one's own wickedness, Ignorance also arises on the path of wisdom. Illuminated by a lamp
