A Verse on Explaining the Condensed Negation. Na bi dha rmA. A Verse on Explaining the Condensed Negation. In Tibetan: A Verse on Explaining the Condensed Negation. Homage to Mañjuśrī, the Protector. To those who have reached the ultimate expertise in grammar and treatises, Pāṇini and Pa bya candra, Ratnamati and Gewa Zla, Nimanasa and others, from the extensive explanations of the distinctions of negation, I intend to explain a little for the sake of the inferior. In the sutras taught by the masters, although many distinctions of negation are extensively explained, the explanations that gather together from all aspects, gathering the various terms into the essence, and the distinctions of gathering, dependence, and the four that are expressed with great clarity, should be understood as just these. Non-existence, other, similar, inferior, withered, weak, subtle, few, swift, small, remaining non-existence, not all from some, disagreement, affinity, separation, these are the fifteen terms that are explained. From these, a slight condensation is from eight to two, withered and weak are inferior, subtle and the other six are combined into one. By combining, there are eight terms of negation. By combining disagreement into affinity, there are seven. Inferior and small are withered. There are six types of negation terms. To understand through meaning, and to fully establish a single word, possessing it but not showing one's own word, other than that, the other is indeed other. Preventing universal imputation, and shrinking from one's own basis, and contradicting others, these are the four types. Non-existence and other, and entering into the meaning of affinity, these are the three. How many terms of negation there are, are gathered into non-existence and non-being. What is to be taught, meaningful and meaningless, and the way of entering, direct and indirect, and reversing universal imputation, and showing the suchness of dharma, and refuting the views of others, and also establishing one's own views, by the difference of the time of arising, the difference of condensation should be known. Meaning and the way of entering, necessity, and the time of entering are free, according to the order of these four. The object to be taught of non-existence is meaningless, the object to be taught of non-being is meaningful. Likewise, non-existence enters directly, non-being is indirect. Reversing imputation is non-existence, showing suchness is non-being.
