That which possesses approximately two is called long. Extremely long is approximately three. That which possesses approximately three is said to be extremely long. Giving above. Whatever letter pronounces a vowel above, that is giving above. Giving below. Whatever letter has a vowel pronounced below it, that is giving below. Combining with its own sound into three categories. Those that are not pure, giving above and giving below, the combination of these is its own place. These, by distinguishing between above, below, and sound, dividing without increasing the vowel letters, should be called its own sound. Its own position is separate from the following vowel. "Own" is itself, that is, the positions of the nasal letters. For whatever letter, its own position is followed by a nasal sound, that is the position of the nasal sound. That which is separated from the following vowel is the nasal sound. The distinctions of the final position and so on. By omitting རེ་ཕ་, that which is divided into two is ཝའོ།. How following with a nasal sound and following without a nasal sound are the same as before. Abandoning all jealousy and miserliness, following the path of good reason. In the essence of right view, what without characteristics can be made clear? Those who wish to act for the benefit of others, approaching them becomes beautiful. Possessing complete and steadfast wisdom, one will possess two kinds of knowledge. I have differentiated the root of letters, whatever slight merit has been accumulated, may it in the great ocean of samsara, thoroughly connect to pacify the suffering of beings. The commentary on the root text of grammar, the Chandrapa Sutra, one hundred and nineteen shlokas, is complete. Authored by the teacher Dharmapala. Having listened well from the great sound master Jeta Karna in the great circle of the city of Yambu in Nepal, near the great place, in the place of Karkha, the root text was translated from the place of Gungtang to the palace of the teacher Lha, Dongphuk, and was translated well by the Shakya monk Nyima Gyaltsen Palsangpo in the great monastery of Pal Tharpaling, the seat of the great scholars. Named "Commentary on the Root of Letters." Dharmapala.
