Those distinguished by differences such as skulls, etc., the dharmas and possessors of dharma based on them are the second. Then, by what are forms and sounds, etc., included? Here, they are included by qualities, because they are differences that depend on things like pots. Moreover, when combined with the dharma of substance, they are regarded as the dharma and possessor of dharma of nature, and those that are established by their own nature should be understood accordingly. Here, other debaters argue that sounds and smells, etc., should be regarded as substances themselves because they exist in places separate from wind and sandalwood, etc. But that is not reasonable, because sound is manifestly established as not existing in other places than conches, etc. And smell is also perceived in other places only when it is imbued by wind and sandalwood, etc., and it is impossible for it to be self-established without depending on things. Therefore, the whiteness and roundness, etc., of a pot, and between smoothness and roughness, should be regarded as qualities of that substance, and not as the substance itself. Some say that because they are objects of different senses, they are different things. But that is also not reasonable, because one cannot grasp them separately without determining shapes, etc., and without regarding them as part of sandalwood and conches, etc. Some argue that the determination of each quality is also because the abilities of each sense are determined. Some say that when one wants to determine them by knowing their differences, they are distinguishable possessors of dharma. Therefore, entering and exiting the meaning of the dharma and possessor of dharma of substance is also affirming existence and negating non-existence, affirming being and negating non-being. Affirming existence is affirming having other differences, that is, a thing having other differences, and one's own dharma having other differences. Among them, a thing having other differences is like saying there is grain in the pot, there is wealth, there is milk, there is butter, etc. Negating their non-existence is the same. Having one's own differences is like saying there is a crack in the pot, there is a pattern, there is dirt, etc. Negating their non-existence is also the same. Those that need to be affirmed and those that need to be negated are related opposites, and those that are established in dependence on them can be either single or

The negation and establishment of existence are also like that. Furthermore, negating the imputation of non-existence, such as imputing that a pot has consciousness, etc., negating the imputation of non-existence, this is also completely established, so combine this. Establishment is only completely imputed, so it is not apprehended. Establishment as existent is also divided into two: existence and non-existence. Among these, existence is also divided into two: combination in relation to opposites, and single in relation to related things. Among these, in relation to opposites, such as the good and bad, large and small of a pot, etc., if related to each opposite thing, then each is established. If related to two, then the two opposing dharmas are established, and the third aggregate is also established, therefore it is called combination. Similarly, for not good and not bad, etc., negating what is not should be combined up to the establishment of the third aggregate. The single, in relation to related things, of establishing as existent and negating as non-existent, is the dharma of action. It is also divided into four types by the distinction of existing in cause and effect, and existing in agent and action. Among these, the action related to cause and agent is distinguished by being related to effect and action. The dharma of action related to effect and action is established and distinguished in relation to cause and agent. Among these, the dharma of action existing in cause is like saying that a pot and wealth and resources produce, etc. The dharma of action existing in the agent is like saying that a pot holds water, holds milk, holds grain, holds wealth, etc. The dharma of action existing in the effect is like saying that a pot is made of earth, made of copper, baked by fire, etc. The action existing in the action is like saying that this pot is to be used, to be held, to be hidden, to be gathered, to be mixed, etc. For the dharma of action and the subject of dharma, when combined with the main subject of dharma of cause and agent, it is called the subject of dharma that distinguishes dharma from effect and action. When combined with the main subject of dharma of effect and action, then it is combined with the subject of dharma that distinguishes the other two. Negating those that are not, should also be related to what is to be negated.
