Titled "Establishment of the Nature of Cause and Effect." Jñānaśrīmitra. Titled "Establishment of the Nature of Cause and Effect." Jñānaśrīmitra. In Indian language: Kātyakakāraṇabhāvasiddhi. In Tibetan: Titled "Establishment of the Nature of Cause and Effect." Homage to youthful Manjushri. Perception and non-perception are truly accomplished by three distinctions. Some say that the nature of cause and effect has five aspects. As it is said, that which is accomplished by perception and non-perception is the principle of cause and effect. Among them, the two perceptions that arise sequentially in the two realms, appearing manifestly in the general, possessing the aid of non-perception, or the two non-perceptions that arise sequentially, possessing the aid of perception, holding the generality of both, it is said that they are accomplished by three kinds of distinctions, as some say. Others say that those three and the aid of the last two are precisely determined by the order of five distinctions. Even if the first three exist, the mind of the one who realizes it gives rise to doubt, but if the last two exist, then the nature of following and contradicting, etc., and the nature of cause and effect will be accomplished. Among them, perception realizes following, and the two are called contradiction, and they are definitely accomplished by five. Among them, if one does not surpass the other, it is difficult to dispel doubt, so it is thought. This should be used: If the previous non-perception, is connected with other things, etc., if there is no cutting off, then what is the use of it? If it cuts off, then what does the latter do? As it is said, whichever of the two non-perceptions is sought for the purpose of accomplishing contradiction, if it is not desired to appear as a cause, if it is desired that the two results appear, then it should be accomplished by obstacles. It also has three aspects: either residing in that very realm, or coming from another realm, or arising from those who are separated from the assembly, etc. If it is not a reason free from such specific obstacles, then what is there to look at in this? This is not necessary for contradiction, but it is close to being an aid to perception that holds following.
