Commentary on the Establishment of Momentary Non-Abiding, The Pearl Vase. Commentary on the Establishment of Momentary Non-Abiding, The Pearl Vase. In Indian language: ཀྵ་ཎ་བྷ་ག་སིདྡྷི་བ་ནཱ་མ། In Tibetan: Commentary on the Establishment of Momentary Non-Abiding. Homage to Manjushri, the Youthful One. In order to know the means of establishing momentary destruction through valid cognition and refuting the realists, this treatise is composed to easily grasp the meaning of the few texts. Among them, in order to refute the tenets of the Samkhyas and other opponents with the previous arguments, the established tenets such as 'all conditioned phenomena' are subsequently stated. Those phenomena that arise from the collection of causes and conditions, those that are made by gathering together, are the conditioned phenomena, which is the meaning of 'conditioned.' Those such as wisdom and flames that do not perish simultaneously, there is no difference in slightly distinguishing them, this is a particularly brief statement. Now, with phrases such as 'those,' the order of faults is shown. If one wants to manifestly establish the tenet, and the meaning of 'momentary' is not widely known in the world, then the meaning of the word 'momentary' that follows is not established. Therefore, it is thought that this is the fault of not establishing the difference. With phrases such as 'their treatises,' it is shown to be unreasonable. With phrases such as 'the meaning of arising,' it is established that it abides in another moment. The Vaisheshikas and Logicians say that it exists in their own continuum and arises by aggregation. If someone says this, and also thinks that things related to establishment are simultaneous, isn't it thinking that it is unrelated to things that exist at different times from the arising of things? Reflection and so on only do some aggregation, but it is merely existence. To this, some say: It is true that after a substance arises, it aggregates with form and so on, this is a consideration of this body. The word 'existence' is for the purpose of approximately indicating those things. What does this establish? This establishes that when a substance arises, because it stays at the time of aggregating with form and so on, it abides in another moment.

Otherwise, it would be absurd to be unable to ascertain such a state. In that case, it would be shown that only matter exists in another instant, while qualities and so on are not like that? If that were the case, what would this become? For the time being, the commitment that everything is momentary would be abandoned. Saying this eliminates the fault of not admitting permanence while existing in an established tenet. Therefore, some students of the Vaiseṣika school themselves assert this. Therefore, the statement "what is made is momentary" actually expresses contradictory meanings, just like saying "my mother is a widow." Not only are there faults such as non-establishment, but also for both opponents related to such a dharma, there is no established example. Therefore, it is said "therefore" and so on. One should not say "this does not exist," because if it does not exist, there would be no memory as a valid cognition to prove pervasion, and the reason of "existence" which is uncertain about pervasion is not a part of the proof. He said "pervasion" and so on. Even if intelligence and so on quickly perish, since they are related to the time of existence and aggregation, it is not established that they perish at the time of arising. Or, even if it becomes doubt, this is the fault of doubting the object to be proven itself. It is said "intelligence" and so on. Saying "the reason of existence is also uncertain with remainder" is saying "doing things." The reason for this itself is "like this." Welcoming the doubts of others is "thinking like this." Those who do things together gradually approach, and things gradually produce a collection of fruits. For this view, those who do things once do a little bit here. If it is not like that, it will become unrelated, just like other things. One does not do undifferentiated things, because that arises in one's own continuum, and it is not permissible to do to what is made. Even if one makes a distinction of differentiated things, that is unrelated. That is it.
