If it is said that one should not engage in the means of ceasing suffering merely because one's own wealth is exhausted in order to cease suffering, that is not the case. In order to destroy the cause of suffering, one should examine what is the antidote to that cause of suffering. Because without approaching the dissimilar cause, it will not cease, so it should be examined. If it is said that it will cease merely because there is no cause, then what is the cause? If it is said to be karma, because other and different karmas arise from ignorance. Is it not the case that one will not be liberated from the exhaustion of karma? It should be said that ignorance is not the cause of karma and suffering. Therefore, one should strive for the selflessness that is the antidote to ignorance. Although that may change, suffering does not have individually determined causes, because various natures such as freedom from suffering become causes. If it is said that therefore one cannot prevent the cause, then here is the answer: Attachment to aggregates, which are the objects of compounded things, that cause is harmful, and seeing selflessness is contradictory. This means that attachment to self and what belongs to self, which is produced by the manifest clinging to 'I' and 'mine,' is the cause of suffering. If attachment disappears, self and what belongs to self will also be abandoned, so suffering will also disappear. Although that may change, if self and what belongs to self are destroyed and attachment disappears, although suffering will not arise in the mind, the suffering of the body still exists in oneself, if it is said so. Here is the answer: One who is diligent in benefiting others will not become suffering himself, because of the manifest clinging to self and what belongs to self. Attachment to a son, and especially attachment to oneself, will cause the suffering of being struck by swords and the like on the body to appear. Manifest clinging to self and what belongs to self is also the view of the perishable collection, therefore, the cause of suffering is the view of the perishable collection. Aggregates are objects with defilements, and their object is the view of the perishable collection. For the view of the perishable collection that has become the cause of suffering, the one that has harm is seeing selflessness, which is contradictory to it, because the aspect of selflessness is contradictory to the aspect of attachment. It is its harm, for example

Oil and the like are contrary to wind. Therefore, by manifesting selflessness, the view of the perishable aggregate as the cause of impermanence will be reversed. If the attachment to the appearance of self and what belongs to self is eliminated, then all suffering will be eliminated. If the body is harmed by cutting, burning, etc., why can't the suffering of death, etc., be eliminated? That is not true, because death means separation from one body, and arising in another body is birth, because of the memory with a distracted mind produced by familiarity with the previous and subsequent states. At that time, just like abandoning and accepting childhood and adolescence, and taking off clothes and wearing them, it is also the birth of the body. Just as habit becomes the cause of desire, if one is accustomed to abandonment, suffering and happiness will not become habitual either. Therefore, if one is accustomed to selflessness, one will not be disturbed by all causes of confusion. If one is liberated from the cause of desire, etc., and wisdom increases, one can clearly understand the shortcomings and merits from seeing many methods with various forms. Therefore, omniscience is possible. If suffering is pacified from seeing selflessness, even so, one is not omniscient. If one becomes omniscient from seeing selflessness, then wouldn't those free from desire and solitary Buddhas also become omniscient? Here it is said: For a long time, also with many kinds, in various ways, one becomes accustomed. Thus, shortcomings and merits, the nature of extreme clarity, transform. The mind is also clear for this reason. The great hero, who has abandoned the habits of causes, for the sake of others, this is the difference from the rhinoceros horn, etc. It means that if a wise being repeatedly becomes accustomed to many methods for a long time, then he can eliminate the shortcomings and merits that are not in accordance with that path. A being who is accustomed in that way, from habit, from intelligence, produces the cause, that is, the habit of the cause of suffering, that is, the characteristic of the decline of the ability of body, speech, and mind created by afflictions, is the Bhagavan other.
