And also, for other manifestative cognitions, it is close to being manifestative. If the cognition of appearances arising from actions and so on, which arises from the sign of the result, those that know the minds of others, do they take the minds of others as objects? Or not? If they take them as objects, then it would become another meaning. If they do not take them as objects, then how does cognition know the existence of the minds of others? Because without knowing its own nature, it is impossible to establish it. If asked in this way, this would also be equally flawed, just as understanding the minds of others through actions and words, if one also takes its own nature as an object, then at that time, just like knowing one's own mind, it would also become the fault of knowing its appearance. If one does not know it, then how does it grasp its own nature? If one says that one understands the general through signs, so it is not a separate understanding, then, is that general the mind of others itself? Or something else? Or something that cannot be expressed? If it is something else and something that cannot be expressed, then it can only grasp that general, but not the minds of others, then how does it understand it? The general is also not the mind of others itself, because if it exists, it would become the fault of knowing its appearance, which has already been said. This is not the way of inference. Inference does not grasp the own nature of things, because it would become the fault of being the same as direct perception, with no difference in appearance, and so on. Therefore, this is not a valid cognition. Even if it does not grasp its own nature, because it does not deceive with respect to the object that one wants to appear, it is a valid cognition. That which arises from the sign of smoke and so on is also not the object of the own nature of fire and so on, because it would become the fault of being no different from seeing. Inference also does not apply to the past and so on, and to things without own nature, and also because it would become the fault of being functional. For inferring the minds of others, there is only non-deception with respect to the object that one wants to appear, and through that gateway of application, after recognizing that other sentient beings exist, one repeatedly applies names, because one obtains the arising object by that power. The world is the result

Merely clinging to that point, and again engaging in inferring the actions of other beings, this is because merely experiencing the knowledge that appears as the difference of external things, there is no expectation. Because the previous knowledge has completed the naming, and has completed its function, so it itself is established as valid cognition. Even in dreams, if it is not from the previous knowledge that the knowledge that appears as external things arises, then merely by this, the previous knowledge should not be considered valid cognition, because then all knowledge would be mistaken. If someone thinks like that, then, here, representational knowledge never arises without the influence of mental fluctuations, therefore, they also infer those things. Due to the cause of error, sometimes interruptions occur, but it is not empty because of these reasons, but there is a difference between manifest and indirect, this has already been said. So, just as the previous knowledge of representation arises through the influence of fluctuations, the subsequent states are also similar to this. The support of representational knowledge arises only through the transmission from the mental continuum of the subsequent state of fluctuation. Moreover, such inference is so non-deceptive, and only naming exists, so it will not be grasped in any way. If inferring the minds of others, even if it does not cling to its own nature, but because it is non-deceptive, it can be considered valid cognition, then, those who directly know the minds of others understand. If the minds of others directly know their own nature, then its object of apprehension will become other things. If they do not understand, then how do they directly understand? How can they not cling to the nature of the directly understood thing? If they really do not cling, then how can it be valid cognition? Because the state has not changed, therefore the yogis, those who have not abandoned the conceptualization of grasper and grasped, understand the minds of others, and also because they are not deceived in naming, just like seeing forms and so on, it is itself valid cognition. Through the power of yoga, for them, there will appear clearly the knowledge that follows the form difference of other minds, this is due to the power of the blessings of karma and gods and so on.

Just as the earth sees a true dream. For these, it is not that there arises a cognition that has the minds of others as its object, but rather because they also only cognize the appearance of their own mind, and the same aspect as (the appearance of their own mind). Because it is necessary to hold the statement "knowing the minds of others," therefore, a term is established. In direct perception, because following its aspect appears clearly, it is considered a non-deceptive valid cognition. The Bhagavan's comprehension of all things is inconceivable, because in all respects it transcends the scope of knowing and expressing. The treatise "Establishing Other Minds," composed by the master Dharmakirti, is complete. The Indian abbot Vishuddha Simha, and the revising translator, the monk Pal Tsek (དཔལ་བརྩེགས་), translated, revised, and finalized it. The treatise called "Establishing Other Minds."
