Armies and kings destroy. Killing people may lead to ruin, and thieves may steal. One should diligently practice the effort of engaging in Dharma. Knowing that fleeting pleasures are meaningless, one should properly and appropriately give offerings to monks, Brahmins, relatives, and spiritual friends. In the next life, there is no better friend than generosity. Giving food as sustenance to long-term guests is excellent. O faithful son, quickly accumulate merit! Blessings will appear in this life, and in the next, your face will be beautiful. Those who desire happiness and wish to avoid suffering, who desire to obtain a high lineage and a good place of happiness, who desire to enjoy happiness and avoid suffering, should always practice this sacred Dharma. Those who desire to obtain the happiness of gods and humans should practice the ten virtues, guarding their body, speech, and mind. Abandoning adultery, killing, stealing, lying, slander, harsh words, idle talk, greed, malice, and wrong views, for one's own benefit, cast the ten non-virtues behind. Strive with love and affection for oneself. Avoid gambling, violent people, thieves, robbers, and other evil companions who are causes of sin. Always rely on a virtuous teacher like medicine. Being deaf, blind, crippled, hunchbacked, having physical defects, being poor, suffering from diseases, and having many illnesses due to karma, do not excessively blame others because of the ripening of karma. One is free to choose between heaven and hell. Because you have autonomy, listen to the differences between happiness and suffering. If you wish to attain heaven and liberation, then cultivate the habit of correct views. Sentient beings oppressed by the mountain of conceptual thoughts have no room to endure this suffering. They revolve in samsara like a water wheel. Conceptual thoughts are carried away by the wind, like leaves of trees. Conceptual thoughts arise in the mindstream, like fire spreading in the grass. Wisdom does not remain for a moment, like a summer rainbow. The four external sufferings are experienced by one's own mind. When you have it, you cannot bear it; when you don't have it, you cannot find it. You must part with love and meet with hatred. The internal suffering destroys one's own body. When it fully manifests, it is like being squeezed between rocks. The place where the mother makes offerings feels like going to the edge of a cliff of death. When falling, it feels like facing thorns. When picked up, it feels like a small grain of sand being carried away by an eagle. The suffering of birth causes one's own body to scatter like dust. Years and months pass, and old age comes stealthily.

When life comes to an end, white hair grows and teeth fall out. The ears cannot hear, and the eyes cannot see. When sitting, the body feels like earth and stone; when standing, it's like pulling a stake from the grass. Even when going outside, one walks hunched and staggering. Desiring food and drink, one must rely on others and beg. Even when seen by children and grandchildren, they dislike it and are not pleased. They are made to guard the house and protect the gate. When others come, they feel ashamed and gossip behind their backs. Neighbor children scold and even bully. When going to gatherings, people say, "Disgusting, go away." Their lifespan is exhausted, and the elderly live like hungry ghosts. Shame and embarrassment are lost, and they are disliked by others. All descendants say, "How pitiful." The hands and feet tremble, and the mouth and eyes are filled with tears. The body loses strength, and one seeks a cane as a companion. Even when speaking well, others do not listen. Even when lying down comfortably, the body's joints ache and hurt. When speaking to others, the words of the elderly are not pleasing. If one speaks of the suffering of old age, it is the same for everyone. The expectations of a body without illness and of happiness and comfort, clinging to these, give rise to wrong beliefs and death, as well as the many sufferings of aging and so on. Be weary of samsara, the source of these sufferings, and understand its faults. There is no happiness on the path of samsara in the three realms. Sentient beings in the six realms have countless illnesses. The five poisons and three poisons are the most intense of diseases. Without beginning or end, the duration of illness is very long. That is how it is; there is no happiness in ignorance. When seized by the noose of the Lord of Death, when the body, speech, and mind are afflicted by illness, that suffering is like a mother monkey losing her child. Constantly, incessantly, one cannot escape the control of illness. The suffering of the body is like a fish struggling on dry land. Even if the spine jumps emptily, there is no strength left. Even if one wants to escape, there is no end to escape. Pain strikes the body, and shame and embarrassment are lost. Even if relatives surround, one must endure the suffering alone. Even when food is put in the mouth, one has lost consciousness. Even when close ones call, one cannot speak. No matter how one lies down, there is no moment of comfort. Even if one feels regret for sins, there is no time to confess. The suffering of illness is like this; it comes to everyone. Therefore, humans cannot truly be at peace. One must recognize that everything seen by the eye is without self. At the time of death, good and bad karma will separate. Those who have done good will see happiness at the time of death, happiness arising from the realm of darkness, without attachment to the body, the body light
