It is not, because it is not taken by other perfections. Since generosity is supreme, it still depends on discipline and shows its inferiority. Now, in order to show the excellence of discipline itself from other aspects, it is said, "To shave the head or to wander with a topknot," and so on. Shaving the head means shaving the hair. One with a topknot is one with a topknot on the head, which is a sign of wandering. Combining the word "having" with a particle, it means to walk and dwell by it. "Covering the braids with the water of discipline," this is the way to establish conduct, meaning for the sake of discipline. Braids covering it, or being covered by braids, whatever explains it, it is called that. "Even if one acts with various costumes," it means that even if one shows bravery through various disguises, it also shows that there are still shortcomings. If one thinks whether such efforts are meaningful, then it is said, "If there is no discipline, one acts with deceit." It means that if one holds onto the extreme of permanence, and there is also no discipline, that is, if one has not obtained it from the beginning, or even if one has obtained it, it has decayed and been destroyed, deceiving oneself, meaning that the effort is fruitless. If so, what will be revealed? In the Sutra of Great Affection for Monks, it says: "Just as on a good tree, branches grow for a long time, if this person is only an appearance for a long time, bad reputation will constantly increase, and sinful actions will also increase." The meaning of what is said is these, and for detailed content, refer to the sutra itself. Is that all? In order to show the second reason for establishing the excellence of discipline itself, it is said, "Crossing the Ganges, drifting in the river," and so on. These are just symbols, so the word "or" is used to welcome. Similarly, "Going to the Yangtze River or pond," means entering the Yangtze River or pond, and so on. "Nereśa is also relying," meaning for those who have Nereśa. "Also" means that those also enter the water in the same way, enter the fire, look at the sun, look at the moon, worship the cliff, to the bright tree

Thinking about whether these riding instruments are meaningful, if it is said that discipline has declined and is meaningless, then it is pursuing fruitless efforts. Therefore, due to the control of bad habits and inversions, it leads to straying from the path, and even disbelieving the teachings of the Sugata, it is impossible to walk on the right path, and is an object of pity. Therefore, the wealth of discipline is like a boat, it is the most supreme of the noble wealth, and it is also the main part of the six perfections. I think so, these three jewels are praised by the Buddhas. Thus, the particularly supreme discipline has been accomplished. Now, in order to show its merits through metaphors, it is said, "How does the fragrance of discipline possess the unsurpassed?" etc. How is it to raise a question, which is connected with the following "Thus". Because discipline is something to be learned. The so-called "possessing unsurpassed fragrance" means that the fragrance that possesses or abides in the unsurpassed is its fragrance, meaning fragrance. The so-called "noble heavenly realms here are inexhaustible", noble is supreme, and heavenly realms refer to the ten grounds, etc. It is also called the good realms. Its place or basis is the inexhaustible fragrance of discipline, meaning that it matures strongly and endlessly. Thus, "the fragrance of flower garlands does not pervade", meaning that the fragrance of diligence cannot be as widespread as the fragrance of flower garlands, etc., because it is inferior and powerless. If you ask, then can the ointments mixed with various medicines do it? The answer is, "Likewise, the fragrance of ointments also does not pervade", just as the wheel of discipline walks on the ladder of the heavenly realms in many rebirths, how can the fragrance of ointments and wish-fulfilling trees, etc., do it? The meaning is that it cannot. Thus, after showing the merits, in order to show its fruits, the teacher said, "Here one rejoices, and going elsewhere is also happy." The so-called "here" refers to the basis of diligence here. The so-called "self-joy" is an example, referring to certain people. The so-called "going elsewhere is also happy" refers to other places.
