In Tibetan: The Account of the Realization of the Noble Joyful Friend. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhichitta Joyful Ones! Thus I have heard: When eight hundred years had passed since the Blessed One's passing into nirvana, at that time, in a place called Shibi, there was a city called Blessed. There lived a king called Lineage of Wisdom. At that time, in the land of King Lineage of Wisdom, there lived a monk called Joyful Friend, who possessed the eight liberations, meditation, the six superknowledges, great magical power, great strength, and who knew the mental activities of beings dwelling in hundreds of thousands of leagues, even ants and Kumbhandas. When the time of his complete passing into nirvana was near, the assembled community of monks said this: If someone like you passes into nirvana, will the Buddha's teachings not decline? He said to them: It will not decline, for the Blessed One has prophesied and spoken. Again, the monks, having doubts, asked: Venerable one, for how long will the sacred Dharma of the Blessed One Shakyamuni remain? He said: Good sirs, do not doubt, do not lament and wail. Why? His name is Tree Bark. The name of the sixth Sthavira is Good. The name of the seventh Sthavira is Black. The name of the eighth Sthavira is Son of Bhadra. The name of the ninth Sthavira is Cowherd. The name of the tenth Sthavira is Path. The name of the eleventh Sthavira is Rahula-graha. The name of the twelfth Sthavira is Zhu De. The name of the thirteenth Sthavira is Corner Knowing. The name of the fourteenth Sthavira is Dwelling in the Forest. The name of the fifteenth Sthavira is Invincible. The name of the sixteenth Sthavira is Crown Path. These Sthaviras possess the three knowledges, are versed in the three pitakas, are free from desire in the three realms, and by the power of their miraculous abilities, their lives have been blessed and extended, and they abide by the command of the Bhagavan. They purify the offerings of donors and patrons. Having spoken thus, the monks said to the Sthavira Joyful Friend: Sthavira, we do not know where those Sthaviras reside. The Sthavira said: Venerable ones, the first Sthavira Bharadvaja the Almsman dwells in the Godaniya continent together with a retinue of one thousand Arhats. The Sthavira named Golden Calf dwells in the Purvavideha continent together with a retinue of five thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Bharadvaja dwells in the country of Kashmir in the north together with a retinue of six thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Irreversible dwells in Jambudvipa together with a retinue of seven thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Tree Bark dwells in the Uttarakuru continent in the north together with a retinue of six thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Good dwells in Tamradvipa together with a retinue of nine thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Black dwells in Simhala continent together with a retinue of one hundred thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Son of Bhadra dwells in Panasa continent together with a retinue of one hundred and ten thousand Arhats. The Sthavira Cowherd dwells on the summit of Mount Incense together with a retinue of eight thousand Arhats.
