It comes from the individual. Like the Bodhisattva vows, one is not oneself again. Obtaining the Pratimoksha vows is desired from the expression of others. Again, take the lay vows in order as they are. Then what should be done if other transgressions occur? Confess as others do. For the wise, it is the wise, from the expression of speech, and from possessing the power to understand its meaning, and from the person who possesses the vows. Among the things that lead to downfall, besides killing and so on, and divisive speech and so on, and the downfall of engaging in impure conduct and so on, and abandoning the drinking of alcohol. What is meant by "how" is that it must be determined to possess the downfall itself. Taking the action of the body with reverence, placing the monastic robe to one side at a fathom in the center, squatting or placing the right knee on the ground, joining the palms and stating the matter and confessing. The statement of confession is this: Son of lineage, monk, or teacher, please listen to me. I, whose name is so-and-so. As it is said to the layperson, possessing the basis of downfall, combining it into one, confessing before the son of lineage or the teacher or the monk. If one confesses, one will abide in happiness, but if one does not confess, it will not be so. Son of lineage, have you seen the downfall? He will say, I have seen it. Again, he will say, will you protect it from now on? Again, he will say, I will protect it. Very good, accept it with the crown of the head. Knowing and seeing, and when remembering, I will do according to the Dharma and the Vinaya. Like this three times. Because when engaging in other minor transgressions, how is it accomplished? What is meant by "the minor ones must be well protected" is that besides the things that lead to downfall, incomplete branches such as killing, and incomplete branches such as divisive speech, those minor ones, that is, the ones to be protected, are beautiful. Acting like that, again generate the mind to protect, until there. Not confessing is because merely protecting is sufficient. Also, for the purpose of purifying all karmic obscurations, it is a category of the Three Heaps Sutra.

Ah! The Six-Door Dharani mantra should be recited six times day and night, constantly. After explaining the prohibitive precepts, one should respectfully engage in the permissive precepts. Thus, the precepts of restraint are maintained. How should one also respectfully engage in the permissive precepts? In this way, through the order of explanation, after the prohibitive precepts are stabilized, the permissive precepts are the precepts of extreme engagement, namely, the nature of hearing and contemplation, and the essence of generosity and so on. How is strength? One should be respectful according to one's ability. Why is that? Because its combination gives various fruits. That is the prohibitive precepts, and its combination with the permissive precepts is related. Various means giving completeness for one's own benefit. Now, by concluding, one should combine the two kinds of precepts. One should strive to combine these two. Even the happy realms are by desire. This is why one should strive in the two kinds of precepts, that is, one should be diligent. Even the happy realms, along with gods and humans, are the characteristics of completeness. Desire is manifest desire, let alone those who desire liberation. If so, for what reason would one turn into a lower realm in any way from the two kinds of precepts? If not a happy realm, then would one enter even with such desire? In the cause of a barley sprout, Where is a rice seed seen? Where is a rice seed seen in the cause of a barley sprout? In some places, it is not perceived or known. Why is that? Because of the rice seed itself, that is, because of the certainty of cause and effect. Similarly, how could the precepts, the cause of happy realms, become the cause of being born in lower realms? This is what is being considered. Such a state, the certainty of cause and effect, is the teaching itself that is completely pure in the three spheres, because there is no other way. I have clearly explained the words of the eight-fold vows of a lay follower. May the merit and power that I have generated Meet the path of the sun's chariot. May it strive to cross the difficult-to-cross shore of entering the ocean of samsara. May beings, with extremely wondrous gazes and actions, achieve an excellent union! The eight-fold vows of a lay follower.
