What fault is there? Therefore, such a permanent entity should not be allowed. If so, then the scripture stating that "all dharmas are without self" will also be harmed. Therefore, the notion that there exists an independent and permanent self is wrong. Therefore, the alaya-vijnana, which is completely imbued with the distinction of mind, is the cause of the fruit arising in the next life. As it is said, the body and speech actions with the characteristics as described are not established by this. If you do not accept body and speech actions in this way, then what is the meaning of the sutra passage that says, "Actions are of three kinds"? Can you explain it clearly now? No, because it cannot be explained in a way that is without fault. How is it without fault? Here, why is it said that "actions are of three kinds"? What is body? What is action? What is the meaning of body and action? And what is the action of the body, these also need to be explained. Similarly, the actions of speech and mind also need to be explained. Why are only the actions of body, etc., mentioned, and not the actions of the eyes, etc.? Why is this explained for the time being? For those who are afraid of many actions, it is to show that the ten paths of action can be summarized by three, just as the three trainings are taught to the son of a shepherd. Some say that only the body acts, but not speech and mind, because they are merely conceptualizations. For these people, speech and mind are also said to be the cause of action. This body is the aggregate with the senses, it is the difference of the accumulation of the four great elements and what is made from the four great elements. Action is that which has the distinction of mind. Body is the meaning of accumulation, because the subtle particles of the four great elements and what is made from the four great elements accumulate. Some say that evil is the meaning of accumulation, because it is the source of impure substances. For these people, the body will not become a body. The intention of the agent manifesting and acting is action. The action that moves the body is the action of the body. Mind is of three kinds: going, staying, and moving. By what means does the wind, which is the cause of the continuum corresponding to it arising in another place, accomplish the movement of the body?

That which is done is called the action of the body, because the intermediate words are not manifest. It is like the butter of a doctor, or the wind of dust. Among the paths of action, killing, taking what is not given, and sexual misconduct are considered the three actions of the body. If so, how can the mind be called that? Because the mind causes it to kill, take, and commit sexual misconduct. What is done by the continuum of the body produced by the mind is called done by the mind, just as thieves burn villages, and grass ripens rice. If so, how is the mind a path of action? Because the mind is both action and the path of both good and bad destinies, it is the path of action. Or the movement of the body is the path of action, because the three actions called mind enter through it. The mind also causes it to kill, take, and commit sexual misconduct. That which is in accordance with the world is also shown as the action of the body. Although there is no good or bad in it, it can bind, because through it, the mind can enter the world and enter wrongly. If only the mind is good and bad, then how should the sutra that says that the three actions of bad karma, which produce suffering and have the ripening result of suffering, are done and accumulated by the body after deliberate thought, be explained? This refers to the meaning of "door, support, and object are definite" in the sutra. The mind other than that is called the action of mind, because it is in accordance with the mind and does not cause the body and speech to enter. Then why did the Blessed One say the action of mind and thought? Of the three minds mentioned earlier, two are thought, and the third causes it to enter, so that is the action of thought. The words of speech are those that understand the meaning through the difference of sound. Action is the mind that arises from it. Is it because it is the form of letters? Or because it can express the desired meaning, it is also language. Action is the action that arises from all aspects of language, as before, the intermediate

Because there are no hidden words. Consciousness is mind, because of the act of attention? Mind is for the sake of future lives and focusing on objects. The rest is as stated before. If only the mind becomes the action of the body, then how can those with distracted minds and those without minds have the two, vows and non-vows? Because the habits of the mind's differences have not been destroyed, the two, vows and non-vows, are mind. The mention of difference is to distinguish the mind that arises from the non-manifestation of vows and non-vows. What is the destruction of that habit? As promised, it is the cause of the mind of abandoning and not abandoning. What destroys it? It is the mind that is considered to arise from the manifestation of the cause of abandoning vows and non-vows, and the cause of abandoning other than that. The action of the eyes and so on is not mentioned because here it is intended to speak only of the action of effort, not the action of the agent. What is the action of effort? It is what the agent's mind clearly creates. What is the agent? It is the one who has the ability of each of the eyes and so on. The Blessed One spoke of the three actions, in what way, how can they be perfectly accomplished, he did not say, he taught everything. This accomplishment of action I have spoken, by whatever merit, may this being attain purity and realize the fruit of Buddhahood. The explanation of "Accomplishment of Action", composed by the teacher Vasubandhu, is complete. The Indian Abbot Vishuddhasiddha and the translator Bhikshu Tsangba Nadede Bendraraksita translated it, and the reviser Bandebe Palste revised and finalized it. Explanation of Accomplishment of Action, Vasubandhu.
