Diligently striving in the right places, practicing pure conduct without being blamed by the wise, is called eating the alms of the land with fruit. "O Gautama, what is the cause for people now being weak, having much harm, having little power, and having short lives?" When asked thus, the Blessed One spoke to the Brahmin Dhanya-jata, saying: "Brahmin, people are attached to what is not Dharma, bound by attachment, oppressed by being bound to what is not reasonable, and entangled by wrong Dharma." The words of the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, should be spoken first at the appropriate time, as follows: words of generosity, words of morality, words of heaven, tasting pleasure in desires, faults, renunciation, solitude, benefits, and extensively and truly showing the Dharma of the path of purification. When the mind is pleased, the mind is at ease, the mind is joyful, the mind is without defilement, and one is endowed with the ability to fully understand the excellent Dharma, and when one becomes capable of understanding everything, the excellent Dharma taught by the Buddhas, the Blessed Ones, is as follows: suffering, origin, cessation, and path. The Blessed One extensively and truly teaches the Four Noble Truths to them. Monks, form is impermanent; whatever is impermanent is suffering; whatever is suffering is without self; whatever is without self is not mine. That is not me. That is not my self. Thus, one should look with the wisdom of right view as it is. Just as with form, one should also look with the wisdom of right view up to consciousness. When a noble disciple who has heard thus sees, he becomes disgusted with form, and he becomes disgusted with feeling, perception, formations, and consciousness. When disgusted, he becomes free from desire. When free from desire, he becomes liberated, thus it is said.

Whether it is called mind, or thought, or consciousness, this is what unlearned childish people have long neglected and hidden, claiming and holding it as 'I have done it,' 'This is mine,' 'This is my self,' 'This is my self.' The Blessed One said, 'For example, in a village or town not far away, there is a pit full of embers without flame or smoke. Then, a person who is not of childish nature, not of foolish nature, but of wise nature, desiring happiness, not liking suffering, desiring to live, not desiring to die, not liking death, comes. He thinks, 'If I fall into this pit full of embers without flame or smoke, I will die, or even just touching death will cause suffering.' After thinking like this, he thinks of distancing himself from it, and strives to distance himself, and keeps the distancing in mind. Just like the pit of embers, desires are also the same.' Thus he spoke. Monks, monks also know the Dharma. What is knowing the Dharma? Here, a monk knows the Dharma as follows: Sutra section, Geya section, Vyakarana section, Gatha section, Udana section, Itivuttaka section, Jataka section, Adbhuta-dharma section, Avadana section, Vaipulya section, and Upadesha section. This is called Dharma. The hundred sections of the Commentary on Reasoning are complete. The Indian Abbot Vishuddha-siddha and Sarvajna-deva and the translator Pandit Tsangde Bandara-rakshita translated it, and the reviser Pandit Manjushri-varma revised and finalized it.
