It is taught as something to be done, to be thought about, inconceivable, and as being established as true. Furthermore, concerning the Dharma taught in terms of five aspects of meaning, what this Ornament of the Sutras explains is that, in order, these examples should be applied as the cause of special joy. At that time, the words "beaten" and "expanded" are obtained through repetition. For the three examples of well-prepared food, etc., the remaining words that are not combined with the initial explanation should be shown as not combined. What are they? They are like eating when afflicted by hunger, like hearing, and like opening. Those are what they are. Therefore, this meaning should be accomplished. Just as gold is beaten into bracelets, earrings, etc., and made into a form, it naturally brings joy. However, if what is to be adorned is also beaten and applied as an ornament to the branches of a young woman's arms, etc., then it produces supreme joy. Similarly, in terms of the meaning to be accomplished, when this Dharma that is taught is explained by establishing the appropriate reasoning for proof, it generates special joy. Similarly, the blooming of a lotus is a separation. Just as one who understands blooming sees it as such and generates joy, similarly, this Dharma that is taught is explained in terms of the meaning to be known distinctly. Just as well-prepared food is well-made, when it is eaten by those afflicted by hunger, it generates supreme joy in them. Similarly, this Dharma that is taught is separated in terms of the meaning to be thought about. Just as hearing a well-written letter is knowing the meaning, it generates special joy in the wise. Similarly, this Dharma that is taught is explained in terms of the meaning of the inconceivable. Just as opening a treasure chest is opening its mouth, and it becomes an object of sight for those who have realized it, it generates supreme joy. Similarly, this Dharma that is taught separates the meaning in terms of the meaning of being completely accomplished. Thus it is said.

is certain. Although gold, when hammered and so forth, is naturally pleasing, it is only when it becomes the object of experience for those who have realized it that it generates a special joy. Just as its own essence does not bring joy, similarly, this Dharma called the "Mahāyāna-sūtrālaṃkāra," which is taught through the five meanings, only through the power of this treatise does realization itself bring supreme joy to those who have realized it. Therefore, the Dharma nature previously taught, because it itself generates great joy, is likened to an ornament and is taught as the ornament itself. Therefore, without a doubt, it should be acknowledged that this verse is explained through comparison in two ways, because this is the intention of the commentator. Otherwise, if the explanation of this Dharma, which is taught through the five meanings, only considers the generation of joy as a component of practice, like the placement of hammered gold and so forth, then that alone is the intended explanation of the treatise's author. If that were the case, then the statement "Now, it shows the nature of the five meanings through the second verse" would become an introduction to this verse and would become a different statement. If a different statement is not desired, then the word "its," which refers to the Dharma fully grasped by the "Sūtrālaṃkāra," would make the explanation referred to by the word "its" become irrelevant. The text explaining "through five examples" would also not be worth expressing, because in order, the meaning has already been understood by the phrase "just like hammered gold and so forth." The previously stated order of explanation is completely without error, just as the single statement from "through five examples" to "the nature consistent with the aspects of enlightenment" uses the subject matter of the Mahāyāna Dharma, reasons, and so forth, and the objects to be proven, as components of proof through comparison. And the second statement, starting with "Sūtrālaṃkāra," explains the five ways.

In order to accomplish the joy of distinguishing with this treatise, the explanation was made with examples such as "hammered from gold," and because it is well-spoken, it is well-established in all places. However, without relying on a wise person who is skilled in understanding the meaning and with a small mind, these two verses cannot be understood as they are. Therefore, may the merit arising from explaining this treatise be accomplished like a treasure that accomplishes all meanings! The commentary on the second verse of the first chapter of the Ornament of the Sutras, touched by the dust of the stamen of the lotus feet of the great scholar of Kashmir, the glorious venerable Somaśrī, composed by the teacher Benefiting Others the Good, is completed. In the temple of the vow, Sakarchar's auspicious wish-fulfilling spontaneous accomplishment, translated, edited, and finalized by the Kashmiri Abbot Paṇḍita Parahita-bhadra and the translator Shakya Bhikshu Youthful Excellent. Commentary on the first two verses of the Ornament of the Sutras, Benefiting Others the Good.
