Explanation of the Noble Buddha-bhūmi. Excellent Nature. Explanation of the Noble Buddha-bhūmi. Excellent Nature. In Indian language: Ārya-buddha-bhūmi-vyākhyāna. In Tibetan language: Explanation of the Noble Buddha-bhūmi. Homage to all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas! Those who have completely comprehended the entirety of the Dharmadhātu, Although it cannot be expressed in words or thoughts, To explain the qualities of the bhūmi to those who are born with it, Homage to those sources of qualities! Having seen the confident intentions of the Lamas, For the sake of those who are weak in mind and completely deluded by self, In order to generate the supreme and utterly pure, The bhūmi of the Thubpas will be explained. The Buddha-field is perfect, And the qualities are also perfect, The Buddha-bhūmis are established, Thus, the meaning of the Sūtra is summarized. The wisdom of Dharmadhātu is like a mirror, Equality and individual discernment, The wisdom of accomplishing activities, Is the definite summary of the bhūmis. Through numbers and names themselves, Summary and detailed distinctions, And the differences in complete wisdom, The bhūmi of the Buddhas is explained. In this Sūtra, in short, the Blessed One's perfect abode, perfect qualities, perfect retinue, and the complete establishment of the bhūmi are fully shown. In order to show sequentially where, with what kind of beings, how they dwell, and how the bhūmi is established. Where? In the great immeasurable palace. Its perfection is said to be the arrangement of the most blazing of the seven precious things, and so forth. With what kind of being? With the Blessed One. His perfect qualities are said to be possessing wisdom that is well understood, and so forth. How do they dwell? With his retinue of great Śrāvakas and great Bodhisattvas. Because in other Sūtras it says: subdued, retinue subdued, liberated, retinue liberated. And, because here it also says: These immeasurable Śrāvakas are the Sangha, together with immeasurable Bodhisattvas. Its perfection is said to be that all are all-knowing, and have completely entered into the great abiding.

The term "pa" and so on, refers to the order of the Shravakas and Bodhisattvas. The term "five dharmas of establishing the ground" and so on. The term "Buddha-bhumi" (Buddha-ground) is named in accordance with the meaning of the sutra, and should be regarded like dependent origination, like a stolen jewel. Among them, where meaning is clearly given and connected, or where mutual clarity is given and arises, that is the basis of discussion, that itself is the place. The necessity of showing it at the very beginning is to correctly show that this is the place of the all-knowing, who transcends all worlds. Showing it is also to generate faith in it among those to be tamed, to make aspirations to be born in pure Buddha-fields, to generate true joy among Bodhisattvas who have faith in the vast, to stabilize the realm of superior intention among those who have faith in superior intention, and to correctly show where they reside and excellently teach the Dharma. Otherwise, if one does not know how to teach well while residing somewhere, everything becomes doubtful, therefore, following that, it is said, "Thus I have heard" and so on. The word "thus" as a particle, appears in metaphors and quotations, as well as in the clarification of questions, vows, and answers. In terms of metaphors, for example, being as rich as Vaishravana, understanding like Vaishravana. In terms of quotations, for example, "May it appear thus." In terms of clarifying questions, for example, "Thus I have heard," "Thus it is said," and so on. In terms of vows, for example, "It should be done thus." In terms of answers, for example, "It is so." Here, it should only be regarded as a vow, because the Bodhisattvas who truly gather request, saying: Please speak as you have heard, and the Bodhisattva vows: I will speak as I have heard. Or, I have heard as it was said, and it should be taught thus, and not otherwise, thus it is shown.

That is, completely abandoning the addition and slander of other branches, one should think in this way. "I" means that I myself heard it directly from the Blessed One, not transmitted from one to another. "Heard" means that which is grasped by the ear faculty that can hear. This also completely avoids the fault of adding or slandering other branches. Those who cannot do so will slander or add to the branches. "At one time" means at one time, because there is no interruption during the time of listening, it is only continuous, so it is one time. If it is not like this, how can it become one time, since the time of letters, words, and memorization are different? Or, because one has obtained the dharani, one can truly remember all the aspects of the Dharma in one letter. Or, because one has obtained a pure ear faculty, one can completely explain one letter without any hindrance to others. Or, time is an assembly, meaning at one time assembly. The word "Bhagavan" refers to independence, extreme taming, beautiful form, fame, glory, and greatness. As it is said: Independence, extreme taming, beautiful form and fame, glory and greatness, these six have virtues. As it is said. All of these, the Tathagata possesses completely and is inseparable from all aspects, so the Tathagata is the Blessed One. Why? Independence means not being under the control of afflictions. Extreme taming means being completely burned by the fire of wisdom. Beautiful form means possessing the thirty-two major marks of a great person. Fame means being perfect in all virtues. Glory means being worthy of being served by all beings. The assembly of greatness means being able to accomplish benefit and happiness for all sentient beings in every way, and without any regression. On the other hand, because he has conquered the four maras, he is the Blessed One. The four maras are the skandha mara, the death mara,
