Those who have entered, that is, those who have generated the mind of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, and have entered the six perfections, are also called by many names. For example: Bodhisattva, great hero, intelligent, supreme in clarity, son of the Buddha, the Victor himself, the basis of the Buddha, the sprout of the Buddha, endowed with skill, wonderful, that master, great fame, endowed with compassion, great merit, powerful, likewise possessing Dharma. Thus it is said. If there are so many names, why are the two names Bodhisattva and Mahasattva mentioned? Therefore, it is said that it is due to three causes. What are the three? They are faith, application, and understanding. How is it through faith? It is said that because of faith in the profound object of knowledge, it is called Bodhisattva, and the profound object is the selflessness of persons and phenomena. Realizing that is Bodhisattva, that is, having faith in that. Sattva means that the mind is directed towards that, therefore it is Bodhisattva. Because of faith in great power, it is called Mahasattva, and great power refers to the kalpas of non-destruction and formation of Buddha-fields, etc., mentioned in each and every pore. Therefore, because of faith in that, that sentient being is great, therefore it is Mahasattva. How is it through application? It is said that I also strive for the sake of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment, therefore it is called Bodhisattva, that is, the sentient being who strives for enlightenment is Bodhisattva. In order to completely save all sentient beings from suffering, it should be linked and declared as the Bodhisattva Mahasattva of diligence, that is, for the sake of saving the vast multitude of sentient beings from sorrow, the diligent sentient being is called Mahasattva in a definitive manner. How is it through understanding? It is said that because of the two powers, enlightenment will be realized. Why? If one has truly entered the Great Vehicle and possesses two qualities, enlightenment will be realized. Therefore, if one possesses two, one is called Bodhisattva Mahasattva. What are the two? They are the power of wisdom and the power of diligence, as it is said, that is, wisdom and diligence.

It is called "power," which is a modification of words. A sentient being who possesses this wisdom is not overwhelmed by opposing forces, therefore, they are a Bodhisattva. Diligence is the cause of growth, so a sentient being who possesses diligence is called a great Bodhisattva. How is it known that enlightenment is realized through the two powers? It is said that when one does not know and when diligence is small, one cannot realize enlightenment. Therefore, in this way, two names are mentioned with three causes. That is, it is said that although many names of those who have entered the Mahayana have been collected, here, those who have faith, practice, and realization are called Bodhisattvas. It will be shown that it is said for the purpose of showing those two. The saying, "One should not abandon them until the end of life," shows that one should always practice those dharmas. The saying, "If one always relies on those dharmas, one can obtain them as stated," shows that one can obtain them in this way. That merit is also stated in the verses below: "The wise, constantly abiding in these dharmas, will conquer the demons and attain enlightenment." It is said. The saying, "Even for the sake of life," means that one should be respectful. What should be respected is that one should respect these four dharmas, and connect them to show them. If one shows them with respect and reverence, it shows that one can obtain all the merits. The saying, "Why are the four dharmas said?" is a synonym for these four, and should be connected as "not few, not many." The answer is: It is said that there are four dharmas that obstruct the accumulation of enlightenment. Why? Those who obstruct the accumulation of Bodhicitta are only four. Not few, not many, by declaring the antidotes to them, they become four. Neither few nor many. If one thinks about what those obstacles are, it is said that one does not seek benefit, one is not skilled in means, one does not incline towards sentient beings, and one clearly inclines towards objects. Among them, to counteract not seeking benefit, it is said: Monks, Bodhisattvas, Mahasattvas, until the end of their lives, even for the sake of their lives, they will not abandon their Bodhicitta.
