《The Differentiation of Actions》 nāma (nāma, name). Marme Dze Yeshe. 《The Differentiation of Actions》 Marme Dze Yeshe. In Indian language: Karma Vibhanga Nama. In Tibetan: 《The Differentiation of Actions》. Homage to the Three Jewels! Nowadays, it is difficult for these beings to even attain the happiness of the heavens, let alone hope for Nirvana. Therefore, I write this for my own remembrance. Free from existence and non-existence, permanence and annihilation, possessing perfect enjoyment of bliss, causing all beings to fully mature, I bow to the holy and excellent one! Having paid homage to the Bhagavan, who is superior and more distinguished than the great ones of the world and beyond, what should be done? One should differentiate between virtuous and non-virtuous actions. Attaining higher realms, gods and humans, is through the discipline of vows. If these are broken, one falls into the lower realms, namely hell, hungry ghosts, and animals. Detailed accounts of gods and humans can be found in the 《Establishment of the World》, 《Establishment of the World》, and the abridged content from the 《Great Commentary》, such as the third chapter of the 《Abhidharmakosha》. For example, the hot hell beings are located two thousand yojanas below Jambudvipa, where the great hell exists. The other seven hells are located sequentially above it. The order of their lifespans is understood by comparing the years of humans with the days, months, and years of the gods of the desire realm and the hells such as the Reviving Hell. For example, it is said that one should understand by converting the fifty years of human life, and so on. The cold hell beings are also located below Mount Kailash (located in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China), opposite the previous hells. Their lifespan is such that if one fills eighty cartloads of sesame seeds measured by the central region's measuring device, and a person takes out one sesame seed every hundred years until they are all gone, then the lifespan of the Blister Hell beings is exhausted. The lifespans of the lower hells are multiplied by twenty. The meaning of these should also be written down by slightly excerpting from the sutras. Thus, these hells are called the sixteen difficult-to-cross places, driven by fierce actions.

. Each one also has sixteen remainders. Four walls and four directions are arranged separately. Iron fences surround it from all sides and are filled with iron. Flames cover hundreds of thousands of yojanas. Thus spoke the Blessed One. The Abhidharmakośa also says: Their four sides are rivers of burning coals, rotting corpses, and razor paths. So it is said. Some great scholars of the past said that the seven, such as heat, are located on the right and left sides of the sentient beings in the Avīci hell. The sentient beings in the ephemeral and neighboring hells do not have a fixed abode, but exist on the plains and above rivers, mountains, wildernesses, and so on. For detailed stories, refer to the Mindfulness Sutra, the Establishment of the World, and the Arrangement of the World. The root abode of the pretas is located five hundred yojanas below the great city of Rājagṛha, where Yama, the king of the pretas, resides. The others are scattered from there. For detailed stories, refer to the Petavatthu. The root abode of animals is the great ocean. Plains, water, mountains, cemeteries, and so on are scattered from there, and details can be found in those places. There is no happiness in these three places. The stories of suffering and its causes are clear in the sutras and treatises, and wise people should look at them. The suffering and causes of hell, pretas, and animals are clear in the sutras and treatises. The one hundred and ten sufferings of humans can be found in the Yogācārabhūmi-śāstra composed by the noble Asaṅga. The gods have no other suffering, but five signs of death and five near signs of death appear, such as clothes becoming stained, flower garlands withering, dust appearing from the armpits, the body producing dirt, and disliking one's seat. The five near signs are that clothes and ornaments make unpleasant sounds, the light of the body diminishes, drops of water from bathing remain on the body, and even the nature of being shaken, the mind will stay in one place, and people
