Commentary on the Instructions of the Middle Way, called Liberation of Wisdom Commentary on the Instructions of the Middle Way Liberation of Wisdom In Sanskrit: Madhyama Upadesha Vritti. In Tibetan: Commentary on the Instructions of the Middle Way. Homage to Arya Lokeshvara! Dispelling the suffering of beings, The cause of the increase of white virtue, Having paid homage to the mind of enlightenment, I will clarify the instructions of the Middle Way. Those who are sinking in the swamp of samsara Due to inverted thoughts, Relying on the path of instructions, In order to accomplish perfect enlightenment, I will explain the meaning of the instructions. Here, by "Whose speech's rays of light," etc., one begins by paying homage to the object endowed with qualities. Is it in order to know that those teachers themselves are noble and virtuous? Is it in order to pacify the obstacles of hindrances? Is it intended to vow to explain? This verse shows two condensed meanings: offering by praising qualities and offering by prostration, and qualities should also be understood as the perfection of others' benefit and one's own benefit. Others' benefit also has cause and effect. There, by "Whose speech's rays of light," etc., the perfection of the cause is shown. "Opening the lotus of the heart of all ignorance, including myself," shows the perfection of the result. The so-called "holy being" shows the ultimate self-benefit. The word "those" means many. The word "obeisance" is a word of prostration. The meaning of the limbs should be explained. The word "whose" is the word of the agent? Although it is a general term, it is clear that it only applies to the basis, the Buddha, having completely abandoned other objects, because it is the occasion for offering by praising the qualities of the Buddha and offering by prostration. It is like saying, "Call the spotted cow." Although it is a general term, it applies to the spotted cow when milk is needed. Saying "speech's rays of light" also shows the rays of light of body, speech, and mind. Like white, red, and blue, and the light of the sun and moon, when the sun rises, the light removes great darkness and causes flowers etc. to open, and various medicines and fruits.

It causes crops to ripen, and pacifies the harm of cold phenomena such as hail, and brings happiness to sentient beings with warmth, distinguishes between the right path and the wrong path, makes unclear things clear, and overwhelms other lights such as stars. Similarly, the light of the Dharma taught by the Blessed One through the gates of body, speech, and mind, with inconceivable liberation, eliminates the darkness of ignorance of beings, opens the lotus of wisdom, ripens all immature continuums, pacifies the harm of demons and so on, pacifies the suffering of all sentient beings, establishes them in supreme bliss, eliminates and abandons evil views, and also overwhelms the light of the fruition of gods and so on. This is also shown by "making momoho" and so on. Light means showing the action of the agent. Opening means showing the action to be done. Mentioning "I, etc." refers to the teacher, I, etc., which is easy to understand. Ignorance means that the meaning of reality has not been manifested. Mentioning "without remainder" means that the Blessed One's compassion is not one-sided, but all-pervasive, and has been invested in accomplishing all meanings. Opening the lotus of the heart means that the heart, which is the basis of the mind, is based on the name of stability, therefore, it is called opening the lotus of the heart. This is like a lotus, a lotus is pleasing to see, has fragrance and various colors, is the source of honey and so on, although it grows from mud, it is not stained by mud, and is particularly excellent. Similarly, the mind is also the place of various emotions such as joy and sorrow, can experience the taste of co-emergent nectar, becomes the source of the Bodhi jewel, and even with temporary stains, its nature is luminous and pure. That is, it is said: The water element, gold, and the sky, are desired to be pure as they are pure. And it is said: The nature of the mind is Buddha, do not seek Buddha elsewhere.
