That which is called 'The Precious Garland'. That which is called 'The Precious Garland'. In the language of India: Ratnamali Nama. In the Tibetan language: That which is called 'The Precious Garland'. Homage to the noble Manjushri! Having paid homage to the all-pervading Lord of Wisdom, I will explain the tenets in order. The Lokayata, the Samkhya, the Vaisheshika, the Nirgrantha, and the Buddhists, these six are known as treatises. In order, the higher ones refute the lower ones. They believe that when these four, earth, water, fire, and wind, die, when the body that is relied upon is destroyed, just as when a lamp dies there is no light, so too, consciousness does not transmigrate elsewhere. Because there is no previous or future life, therefore there is no abandoning of obscurations, no accumulation of merit, no Buddha accomplished by the many lives of the noble ones, no Dharma spoken by him, and no Sangha that realizes the Dharma, so say the Lokayatas. Because there is no cause, not relying on others, it follows that it is either always existent or non-existent. Things sometimes arise because they depend on conditions. Because there is no cause, no effect arises, therefore it is established that there is no beginning to birth. Because it is impossible to arise simultaneously or sequentially, and because there is no birth for the permanent, if it is produced by dissimilar proximate causes, then mangoes should arise from the Kotra tree. Therefore, it should not be said that sentient beings arise from the great elements and so forth. From a cause with unimpeded power, the future effect will arise. The arising of an effect from a collection of causes is proof of future arising. Whatever it may be, from habituation, when the power of meditation is perfected, the fruit of non-conceptual wisdom will appear clearly, just like desire and suffering and so forth. From extreme habituation with the true meaning, the nature cause that can arise will arise. The one who speaks the Four Noble Truths is the Buddha, because others do not have that ability. If it is said to be Brahma and so forth, then he is the Buddha, why should I argue about names? Therefore, the Three Jewels are established. On the main meaning of the selfless Four Noble Truths, because it does not deceive, therefore earth and so forth are established. The Vedas and so forth, in some aspects, believe that it can be proven by what is seen, if it is said like that, because it deceives on the chief self and the permanent and so forth, so it is the same for others. The Samkhya believes that desire and so forth are the nature of the mind, just like the heat of fire, even if habituated, it cannot be abandoned. Therefore, there is no Buddha and so forth, no cause and effect of previous and future lives, and

Geshi Di, Dharma and non-Dharma, etc., exist because they are established by valid cognition. Here, most of the terms are the same as those of the Vaisheshika school. If it is nature, then because there is no cause, it should always exist or not exist. Because attachment, etc., appear occasionally, it is not nature, therefore it is impermanent. The nature of mind is luminosity, faith, etc., and attachment, etc., afflictions and virtues are adventitious, like the water element, gold, and space. Like purity, it is considered pure, like refining gold to remove impurities, complete purification is possible. The Samkhya school's twenty-five principles are nature, intellect, and ego, the former giving rise to the latter in general. The five faculties of intellect and the five faculties of action, the qualities of those five measures, the sixteen arise from ego. The great elements arise from those measures, the purusha and the twenty-five principles. The purusha alone is considered the enjoyer, the twenty-four principles are the three qualities, with the nature of equality and inequality. Nature and purusha revolve without being separated, if separated, it is considered liberation. Everything is the nature of everything, it is considered that cause and effect are one. If everything is the nature of everything, from saying "drinking yogurt," why not run to the cow? If it is considered that cause and effect are one, excellent grass should also become elephants, etc., otherwise it should become ashes. If the state and nature are one, then there is the fault of the aforementioned. If they are different, then the oneness of cause and effect is lost. If the purusha is permanent as the enjoyer, then one enjoying contradicts all enjoying. Enjoying pleasure is not suffering, therefore, if it is permanent, then enjoying is contradictory. The faculties, etc., are also one, or many, separated and moving or not moving, obscured and not obscured, one is contradictory. If one is not established, then there are no many. The meaning of the Vaisheshika school is six categories, substance, गुण (guna, quality), कर्म (karma, action), सामान्य (samanya, generality), विशेष (vishesha, particularity), समवाय (samavaya, inherence), these six. Substance is considered to be nine types, earth, water, fire, and wind, these four are divided into permanent and impermanent. Atoms are permanent, the aggregation of two, etc., has parts. Other impermanent things are also space, direction, time, mind, and self, these five are considered permanent as one. From the combination of self and mind, the combination of quality and faculty, the combination of that and object, etc., cold and heat and otherness, combination and relation and before and after, intelligence and anger and desire, diligence and pleasure and suffering, form, sound, smell, taste, and touch, etc.
