The Treatise Called "A Garland of Appearances" The Treatise Called "A Garland of Appearances" In Sanskrit: Ālokamālāprakaraṇanāma. In Tibetan: The Treatise Called "A Garland of Appearances". I prostrate to the powerful one who taught only mind, in order to abandon the three ignorances, and through meditating on the three natures. Having transcended the limits of the three realms, he spoke of elaborations, summarized as mere mental discriminations. If those are completely abandoned from the mind, there will be no more births that bind to existence. By fully knowing existence and liberation, the fruit of abandoning and attaining them arises. All good wisdom is diligence in the inner mind. The mind stained with desires and so on is cyclic existence, separate from that is itself. The Victorious One who has abandoned obscurations has said that, in brief, it is liberation. Desire, hatred, and ignorance are the thoughts of embodied beings' own minds. Whatever other dharmas there are, are false natures speculated by children. Even in the discriminations of the meaning of the sacred, the wise do not abide. What difference is there in discriminations of virtue or non-virtue? Based on the basis and the distinction, there is no difference in the burning of fire. Even this fire of sandalwood burns by mere touch. Even small discriminations should be abandoned entirely. The nature of delusion is discrimination, the mind is clearly deceived. Since delusion is also impure, it is like the illusion of a magician. Illusion is also knowable, and so is the illusion of the mind. Therefore, see this and that of the mind as undifferentiated in delusion. The Middle Way is just that, that is the selflessness of dharmas. The true limit is also that, that is suchness and emptiness. The equality of dharmas is liberation, that is just the nature of consciousness. Since all dharmas are included within, it is not far, not near, nor distant. Since that nature is very difficult to realize, its nature cannot be analyzed. Self-awareness is also very subtle, the Buddhas see the subtle. Although it abides in oneself like oneself, it is not seen because of its grossness. Whenever yoga is awareness, do not think that liberation is far away, the nature of what is measured is emptiness. Nirvana is seeing one's own true nature.

Like illusions, dreams, etc., and cities like Bhīlaya, even delusion can accomplish something, for the sake of dispelling other delusions. Through their conceptualizations of objects, wakefulness is the nature of delusion, and the manifestation of dreams is also due to its power, the poison of unbearable habitual tendencies. Alas! The continuum of false conceptualizations is extremely dense, with one dream upon another, like bubbles upon bubbles. Because of the appearance of unreal meanings, the real meaning remains obscured, born from ignorance, like being afflicted by jaundice. What is not different appears as different, and what is not external appears as external. Due to the impurity of the appearance of objects, the mind appears in various forms. The sun, moon, sky, constellations, and all the lands, rivers, oceans, and directions—these are all transformations of the mind. Completely cut off by the peak of existence, the three realms are in these places. All that appears in this way is a drop of the poison of consciousness. If it appears, how can it not exist? How can appearance be unreal? Because it appears, it exists, but it is not apparent. Does not a dream appear? Due to the arising of additional impurities, the definite understanding of one's own nature is obscured, while the nature of others appears. Wisdom is like a mirror. Is not one's own nature unapparent? By obtaining layers of time, and being influenced by the habitual tendencies of conditioning, conceptualization becomes apparent. Because the mind is completely defiled, one appears as two. In the difference between what is grasped and what grasps, why are you not extremely skilled? Because the aspect of what is grasped does not move, it remains as if it were an external object. Because what grasps is alive, it is like an internal movement. Here, there is neither inside nor outside, because they are mutually established. In between, it is neither existent nor non-existent, because it abides only in mind. In the city of the senses, there is no desire, neither in objects nor in the mind. It does not abide in self, nor does it abide in others. It is neither existent nor non-existent. Through the cause of unexamined connections, the mind is transformed into delusion. Wherever it may be, like hail falling from within the clouds. Likewise, anger, delusion, and any other kind of affliction, pervade the three realms, all arising from the poison of conceptualization.
