Entering the Middle Way by Chandrakirti. Entering the Middle Way. By Chandrakirti. Here begins Entering the Middle Way. In Sanskrit: Madhyamakāvatāranāma. In Tibetan: Entering the Middle Way. Homage to youthful Manjushri. Hearers, middling Buddhas, are born from the Powerful One. Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are born from Bodhisattvas. The mind of compassion, the non-dual wisdom, and the mind of enlightenment are the causes of the Buddhas' heirs. Since loving-kindness is the seed of this bountiful harvest of the Victorious Ones, like water for growth, like enjoyment for a long time, like ripening into fruit, therefore, I will first praise loving-kindness. First, clinging to "I," then generating attachment to "mine," like a water bucket without autonomy, I bow to the one who is compassionate to beings. Like the moon in the moving water, seeing the moving and the emptiness of its nature, this son of the Victorious One, whose mind is controlled by compassion to liberate all beings, dedicating with the aspiration of Samantabhadra, abides in joy, this is called the first. From then on, having attained that, he is called a Bodhisattva. This one is born in the lineage of the Thus-Gone Ones, this one has abandoned all three bonds. That Bodhisattva holds supreme joy and is also able to shake all hundred thousand world systems. Suppressing from ground to ground and going upwards, at that time all the paths of bad migrations of this one will cease. At that time all the grounds of ordinary beings of this one will be exhausted. This is shown to be like the eighth noble one. Although the perfect mind of enlightenment abides on the first ground, the speech-born of the Powerful One, together with the solitary Buddhas, are defeated by the power of merit and increase greatly. He has gone far, and his wisdom also increases greatly. At that time, the cause of perfect and complete enlightenment for him, the first, giving, increases especially. Even giving his own flesh, he is respectful, and it also becomes the cause of the inconceivable.

UR. All these beings desire manifest happiness, And people's happiness is not without enjoyment, Knowing that enjoyment also arises from giving, Therefore, the Buddha first spoke of giving. Those who are deficient in compassion and have extremely harsh minds, Whoever only takes care of their own interests, Even their desired enjoyments, Become the cause of the cessation of suffering, arising from giving. This also, through the occasion of giving, when, Meeting with noble beings, quickly attain. Then, having completely cut off the continuum of existence, Becoming the cause of that, they go to peace. Those who have vowed to benefit beings, Through giving, they will soon attain joy. Why? Because of the loving and the non-loving, Therefore, the word of giving is the main thing. How to give, after hearing and contemplating this word, Like the lotus-born child, joy arises, thus are the Buddhas. If not making happiness by entering into peace, Having given up everything, what need is there to look? Cutting off one's own body and giving, with my suffering, Seeing the hells and so on of others, Suffering in self-awareness, To cut that off, quickly exert effort. Giving, the giver, the receiver, empty of giving, Called the transcendent perfection. If attachment arises to these three, Then it is shown as the worldly perfection. Thus, abiding in the mind of the son of the Victorious One, On the sacred support, having found splendor and beauty, This joy, like a jewel, crystal, Completely dispels all deep darkness and triumphs. From the Entering the Middle Way, The first chapter on generating the mind. Because it is endowed with perfect qualities, Even in dreams, it abandons the stains of immoral conduct. The actions of body, speech, and mind become pure, Accomplishing all ten paths of virtuous action. Looking at this path of virtue, all ten, Practicing it, it becomes extremely pure. Like the autumn moon, always pure, Adorned by peaceful radiance. If that is like the nature of pure discipline, Therefore, that is not the purity of discipline. Therefore, that is always in all three, Also completely separated from the activity of dualistic mind. Through giving, even in the lower realms, enjoyment can be obtained, Even when beings' practice of discipline declines.
