Forty-ninth, The Chapter on Non-Discrimination. Forty-ninth, The Chapter on Non-Discrimination. Then, the Venerable Sharadvatiputra said to the Venerable Subhuti: "O Venerable Subhuti, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom is practicing the essence." This means that if Shariputra understands the meaning of non-discrimination mentioned above, then practicing the meaning of non-discrimination in this way is practicing the supreme, the ultimate, and the essence of practice. This is praise. After saying this, the Venerable Subhuti said to the Venerable Sharadvatiputra: "O Venerable Sharadvatiputra, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who practices the Perfection of Wisdom is practicing the non-essence." This means that in order to eliminate the doubts of some listeners who think that the essence mentioned earlier, whether it is such a real thing, it is said to practice the non-essence. The so-called essence refers to the most excellent among existing things. The so-called non-essence means that in the ultimate sense, all dharmas are empty of nature and have no substance. Therefore, it is shown that the Bodhisattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, which is to practice the non-essence. Why? Venerable Sharadvatiputra, from "The Perfection of Wisdom is non-essence" to "Omniscience itself is also non-essence," this shows the reason for practicing non-essence. The dharmas from the six perfections to omniscience itself are without substance in the ultimate sense. The Bodhisattva also practices these dharmas, so it is practicing non-essence, that is the meaning. Why? This is because the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva practices the Perfection of Wisdom, if even the non-essence itself is unattainable and cannot be truly seen, how can there be attachment to the essence? This means that the six perfections, etc., are dharmas without substance in the ultimate sense.

For those who wish to accomplish the deeds of a Bodhisattva, they do not fixate on those (Bodhisattvas). If one does not observe phenomena, how could one fixate on something meaningful that is not truly real? Therefore, a Bodhisattva who practices the Prajnaparamita is practicing the meaning of emptiness. From "Then, many sons of the gods in the desire realm and the form realm thought thus" to "Those who do not manifest the equality of Dharma are worthy of reverence," it means that although one understands that all dharmas are without essence, one does not abandon the mind of generating unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. Although one practices the profound, objectless Prajnaparamita, one does not manifest the true limits of the Shravakas and Pratyekabuddhas, nor the nature of emptiness. Such beings are rare. Therefore, it is shown that those Bodhisattvas who practice in that way are worthy of reverence. From "The venerable Subhuti said to those sons of the gods" to "Those sentient beings who need to be completely liberated from suffering are extremely non-attached, which is even more difficult for them," it means that practicing objectless Dharma and not manifesting the true limits is not so difficult. It is even more difficult to vow to benefit many sentient beings and not be attached to those sentient beings. Therefore, it is shown that such practice is worthy of reverence. A Bodhisattva Mahasattva who practices in that way enters unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment in order to tame all sentient beings, meaning that one puts on armor for the benefit of many sentient beings and does not fixate on sentient beings. This is not just for one's own benefit, but mainly for the benefit of sentient beings, and one is also not attached. Therefore, it is shown that such practice is entering unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. From "Whoever thinks of taming sentient beings is like thinking of taming the sky" to "Looking at accumulating sentient beings for the sake of accumulating the sky," it means that sentient beings are objectless.
