Ah, it is taught that it should be understood. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is irreversible, from "walking and coming, does not walk with a confused mind" to "he walks seeing that direction," shows that the four conducts of walking, staying, sitting, and lying down are practiced without error, and that being mindful and having correct knowledge is the characteristic of being irreversible. Furthermore, Subhuti, the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva who is irreversible, from "clothing is without fault" to "free from dust and dirt and with few illnesses," shows that having good and clean clothes, a fragrant body, being free from dust and dirt on the body, and having few illnesses on the body are also signs of an irreversible Bodhisattva. Furthermore, Subhuti, from "for those who are born as humans, there are eighty thousand kinds of insects in their bodies" to "completely pure mind is upheld," it is said that many insects do not arise in the body, and the body, speech, and mind are completely pure, thereby showing the sign of irreversibility. Not having many insects arise in the body is also due to having a special root of virtue, the body, speech, and mind are completely pure, for the sake of being superior to all worlds. After saying this, the Venerable Subhuti asked the Bhagavan as follows, from "Subhuti, this should also be known as the complete purity of the body, speech, and mind of the Bodhisattva-Mahasattva," it is to distinguish the aforementioned general statement of the complete purity of body, speech, and mind, therefore Subhuti asked, and the Bhagavan taught that if one practices the ten virtues, then the body, speech, and mind are pure. The three good deeds of the body are: not killing, not stealing, and not engaging in sexual misconduct. The four good deeds of speech are: not lying, not slandering, not using harsh language, and not engaging in frivolous talk. The three good deeds of the mind are: attachment, harmful intent, and wrong

Moreover, without views, generated by special roots of virtue, possessing complete purity of body, speech, and mind, in order not to fall into the level of Hearers and Solitary Buddhas, it should be known that the Bodhisattva is irreversible. This is what is taught. Subhuti, furthermore, the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva is not one who eagerly accepts gains, respect, and offerings, from "upholding the twelve qualities of discipline" to "truly upholding and practicing them," which means not being attached to gains, respect, and fame, being content with little desire, and although abiding in the twelve qualities of discipline, not being attached to them and not being arrogant about those qualities of discipline, it should be known that they are irreversible. This is what is taught. Subhuti, furthermore, the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva does not generate a mind of stinginess, from "does not generate a mind of perverse wisdom" to "does not generate a mind of jealousy," which means, if one is free from the opposing factors of the six perfections and jealousy, by those signs it should be known that they are an irreversible Bodhisattva. This is what is taught. Subhuti, furthermore, the irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva is steadfast in mind, from "Subhuti, those should be regarded as the characteristics of an irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva" to, which means being steadfast and profound in mind, respectfully listening to the Dharma from others, practicing in accordance with the Perfection of Wisdom, and whatever worldly activities there are, engaging in them conventionally in accordance with worldly customs, but ultimately relying on the Perfection of Wisdom, engaging without objectification, and realizing that there is no opposition to the nature of reality and the realm of Dharma, by those realizations it should be known that they are an irreversible Bodhisattva. This is what is taught. Subhuti, if a wicked Mara manifests the eight great hot hells in front of an irreversible Bodhisattva Mahasattva, etc.,

If they cannot be deceived, then one should recognize through these signs that they are non-retrogression Bodhisattvas. Among them, from "The evil Mara manifests and transforms into the eight great hot hells" to "Good son, this is not a place, there is no opportunity, a non-retrogressing Bodhisattva Mahasattva will be born in hell, or in the realm of animals, or in the world of Yama, this is impossible," it explains that even if the Tathagata shows many non-retrogressing Bodhisattvas being burned in hell and threatens them, if they do not abandon their Bodhicitta, one should recognize through these signs that they are non-retrogressing. Good son, furthermore, if the evil Mara comes to the Bodhisattva Mahasattva, transforming into the appearance of a practitioner, from here to "This Bodhisattva is uncertain, this Bodhisattva does not abide in the realm of non-retrogression," it explains that the evil Mara transforms into the appearance of a practitioner, creating doubts for those Bodhisattvas who have previously vowed to fully practice the pure Dharmas such as the six perfections, saying "Leave separately, abandon!" If they arise doubts, their minds waver, and they become hesitant, then this Bodhisattva is uncertain, explaining that they are not non-retrogressing. If the Bodhisattva Mahasattva is not confused, not hesitant, and does not doubt, from here to "What need is there to mention believing in heretics and other wanderers and following them, that is impossible," it explains that as mentioned above, if they cannot be deceived by the evil Mara and are not swayed by others, one should recognize that they are non-retrogressing. Why is that? Because in this way, no matter what they believe in and follow, they cannot truly see any Dharma, they cannot truly see form, or the suchness of form, and so on, they cannot truly see the aspect of the path consciousness, or the suchness of the aspect of the path consciousness.
