Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Nature of Reality Chapter Thirty-Seven: The Nature of Reality Then, beginning with "The venerable Subhuti addressed the Blessed One as follows," it was explained earlier that if one does not possess the perfection of wisdom and skillful means, one will fall into the level of hearers and solitary realizers, but if one possesses the perfection of wisdom and skillful means, one will not fall into the level of hearers and solitary realizers. Having heard this, one wondered, "How should those who are newly entering the Mahayana and do not possess wisdom and skillful means train in the six perfections?" Therefore, this was asked. From "The Blessed One said" to "They should be attended to, relied upon, and revered," it is taught that beginners should attend to and revere the wise teachers who teach the six perfections, and by training in this way, they will become skillful in means and will not fall into the level of hearers and solitary realizers, but will attain unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment. From "They teach the perfection of wisdom in this way" onwards, it shows how those virtuous friends teach and explain the six perfections. From "O son of good family, whatever giving you give, dedicate all of it to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment" to "O son of good family, whatever wisdom you cultivate, dedicate all of it to unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment," it teaches the method of dedicating the fruits of practicing the six perfections not to worldly perfections or to the level of hearers and solitary realizers, but to unsurpassed enlightenment. From "O son of good family, do not conceive of unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment as form" to "Do not conceive of all-knowingness as all-knowingness," it teaches that unsurpassed, perfect, and complete enlightenment itself is ultimately without substance, so one should not conceive of the nature of any dharma from form up to all-knowingness.

Furthermore, it is taught that one should not regard those dharmas as their own nature, nor should one cling to characteristics, because they are not. Why is that? From "Form that is not fully examined leads to the attainment of omniscience" to "Knowing the aspects of the path that is not fully examined leads to the attainment of omniscience," it shows the reasoning for not regarding unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment as the nature of form, etc., and not clinging to characteristics. Because, ultimately, unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment itself and all dharmas such as form are without substance and are not objects of examination, therefore, if one does not fully examine them and does not cling to characteristics, one will understand the true meaning and attain omniscience. Therefore, it is taught: Son of good family, do not generate desire for form. Why is that? Son of good family, non-desire is form. And do not generate desire for unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. , "english_translation": "Son of good family, non-desire is unsurpassed perfect and complete enlightenment. The above explains that if one does not fully examine any dharma such as form and does not cling to characteristics, one will attain omniscience. If one says that one should attain omniscience, one thinks that omniscience is something to be attained and generates desire for it, which is to be prevented. All dharmas from form, etc., up to omniscience are ultimately without substance and are not objects of desire, therefore, do not generate desire for them. Why is that? Son of good family, all dharmas are empty of inherent existence. The above is a brief summary of what was said earlier. In short, all dharmas are ultimately empty of inherent existence, therefore, one does not generate desire for any dharma in order to attain it. After saying this, the venerable Subhuti reported to the Blessed One as follows, etc. The above explains that, as mentioned above, all dharmas are ultimately empty of nature, therefore, there is no way to generate desire for anything.
