Chapter Twenty-Three: The Chapter on Relics Chapter Twenty-Three: The Chapter on Relics Then, the Blessed One said to Indra, Lord of the Gods: Kauśika, Even if you were to find the Jambudvipa filled to the brim with the relics of the Tathagata, or if someone were to give a written text of the Perfection of Wisdom, which of these should be taken? Since these relics of the Tathagata arise from the Perfection of Wisdom, the world with its gods, humans, and asuras should attend to them, honor them, revere them, worship them, protect them, attend to them, honor them, revere them, and worship them. Even finding the Jambudvipa filled with the relics of the Tathagata, and the merit of worshiping and honoring them, etc., is shown to be less than the merit of worshiping and honoring the written text of the Perfection of Wisdom. The relics of the Tathagata are not the cause for accomplishing all the Buddha's teachings, but the Perfection of Wisdom is the main cause for accomplishing all the Buddha's teachings. Since the relics of the Tathagata also arise from this Perfection of Wisdom, Indra was taught that the Perfection of Wisdom is more important than the relics. Then, the venerable Sharadvatiputra said to Indra, Lord of the Gods, from then on. It is not difficult to achieve omniscience. Previously, Indra had chosen the book of the Perfection of Wisdom over the Jambudvipa filled with the relics of the Tathagata. In reality, the nature of the Perfection of Wisdom does not distinguish between good and bad, and there is no acceptance or rejection. However, Indra considered it a dharma with acceptance and rejection, which was deemed unreasonable. Therefore, he asked, "Why do you cling to a mind of acceptance and rejection in this way?" Indra replied, "Venerable Sharadvatiputra, it is indeed so, it is indeed so." Even the perfection of generosity should not be understood as dualistic, generosity

Up to the point of "the Perfection of Wisdom is non-dual," it is as before when Śāriputra, in the ultimate sense, did not differentiate between good and bad in any dharma of the Perfection of Wisdom, and Indra repeated the words that showed the qualities of non-acceptance and rejection. Saying, "It is so, it is so," thus, in the ultimate sense, the six perfections, including the Perfection of Wisdom, are all of one taste in emptiness, without duality, and it is not to be known as distinguishing between good and bad and having acceptance and rejection. Then, the Blessed One gave the word "Good, good" to the Lord of the Gods, Indra, saying, "Good, good, Kauśika, it is so, it is so, as it is said." From "Why is that? Kauśika, it is like this, the Perfection of Giving and the inconceivable realm are non-dual, they cannot be made into two," there is no distinction between good and bad in the Perfection of Wisdom, and the Blessed One praised Indra's explanation of the meaning of non-acceptance and rejection, saying, "It is so, it is so." In order for the retinue to understand that the meaning is being taught, the realm of dharma, suchness, the ultimate limit, and the inconceivable realm are all without duality. Just as they are of one taste in emptiness, so too, the six perfections, including the Perfection of Wisdom, are without acceptance and rejection because they are without duality. This is what the Blessed One himself emphasized and taught. Then, the Lord of the Gods, Indra, said to the Blessed One, "Blessed One, this Perfection of Wisdom is worthy of being revered by the world with gods, humans, and asuras," and so on. It is like that, in the order mentioned above, in the ultimate sense, there is no acceptance or rejection and no distinction between good and bad in the Perfection of Wisdom, even if it has been determined. But in the relative sense, if one trains in the Perfection of Wisdom, the Bodhisattvas will manifest complete enlightenment in the three times, and with the example of the gods worshiping and serving the seat of the Lord of the Gods, Indra, wherever this Perfection of Wisdom is written and held, etc.

In that direction, gods and nagas of the ten directions, as well as tathagatas, shravakas, and pratyekabuddhas, all arise from this Prajnaparamita. All the means of happiness for all sentient beings also arise from this Prajnaparamita, and therefore they will make offerings and prostrations. Similarly, the relics of the Tathagata are worthy of offerings because they arise from the Prajnaparamita, and therefore they are worthy of offerings. Bodhisattvas attain the wisdom of omniscience because they have learned this Prajnaparamita, and therefore activities such as writing and holding this Prajnaparamita, as well as making offerings and showing respect, demonstrate a reasonable basis. O Bhagavan, therefore, from those two choices, I will take this Prajnaparamita. This is like before, even if one were to find a Jambudvipa filled with the relics of the Tathagata, or if someone were to give this Prajnaparamita written in a book, if someone were to ask which of the two should be taken, this is a summary of the answer: from those two, conventionally, one should take this Prajnaparamita, and therefore activities such as writing and holding the Prajnaparamita demonstrate the benefit of particularly excellent merit. O Bhagavan, when I take this Prajnaparamita and recite it with a mind that belongs to the Dharma, even the slightest sign of fear or anxiety will not be truly seen. This, and so on, shows the benefit that if one takes this Prajnaparamita and reads and recites it with a mind of faith and trust in the profound Dharma, then even the cause or sign of fear and anxiety will not arise. In this way, even the slightest sign of fear and anxiety does not arise because this Prajnaparamita, in the ultimate truth, has no sign, no mark, no expression, and no statement. Among these, there is no sign because it is free from all the elaborations of conceptual thought. There is no mark because it is free from the characteristic nature of things. It cannot be
