Dwelling inwardly in perfect concentration. The so-called Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha indicates the perfection of the place. That place was often disturbed by demons, so it was named Rajagriha to prevent demons from intruding. Since then, that land and city have been known as Rajagriha. On the other hand, that city is the chief of all cities, like a king, so it is called Rajagriha. To show that this sutra is also the chief of all scriptures, that excellent city is mentioned. However, the area of Rajagriha is vast, and it is not known where it is located. To clarify this point, it is said, "Vulture Peak Mountain in Rajagriha." The shape of that mountain is like a vulture perched, so it is called Vulture Peak Mountain. Mentioning the two places of Rajagriha and Vulture Peak Mountain shows the benefit to both householders and renunciants. Saying Rajagriha means that when the Blessed One begged for alms in Rajagriha, householders saw the body of the Tathagata, and with faith arose, they offered alms and other things, benefiting them through the way of begging for alms. Saying Vulture Peak Mountain shows the benefit to renunciants through the Dharma. Renunciants do not live in the midst of noise, but in the quiet mountains, benefiting them by explaining the true Dharma. The words "together with the great Sangha of five thousand monks" and so on, show the perfection of the retinue. There are two kinds of retinue, the retinue of monks and the retinue of Bodhisattvas. The retinue of monks is mentioned first because renunciants are the supreme objects of offering, worthy of being offered and respected by the world, and they always attend the Blessed One, and are respected by all people.

Because it is the realm of practice, the retinue of monks was mentioned earlier. The retinue of Bodhisattvas, because they abide in the form of householders, are not known as places of offering, and because they go for the benefit of sentient beings, they are impermanent in attendance, and because they are not the realm of practice for all worldly people, they are mentioned later. By mentioning the number "approximately five thousand monks," it indicates that the retinue is large. By "all are Arhats, those who have exhausted the outflows," etc., it shows the greatness of the retinue by showing that they are endowed with excellent qualities. Among them, "all" indicates that all those noble Shravaka retinues are all Arhats, showing that within that retinue, there is not a single person who is still learning, such as those who have entered the stream, or an ordinary person. "Arhat" means one who has destroyed the enemies of afflictions. Another explanation is that "Arhan" also refers to the meaning of non-birth, meaning that all are of the nature of not being reborn in samsara again. Another explanation is that "Arhan" also refers to being worthy or capable, because all of one's own benefits are completely fulfilled, so one is worthy and capable of showing others, or worthy of being the Sangha Jewel, or worthy of being offered with various offerings by the lords of humans and gods of the three realms. Another explanation is that "Arhan" also refers to offering, because those noble Arhats constantly make offerings to the Tathagata with the offering of practice, so they are also called Arhats. "Those who have exhausted the outflows" refers to the four types of outflows, namely the outflow of desire, the outflow of existence, the outflow of ignorance, and the outflow of views, having abandoned and exhausted these outflows, they are called those who have exhausted the outflows. Among them, the outflow of desire refers to the afflictions belonging to the desire realm. The outflow of existence refers to the afflictions belonging to the form realm and the formless realm. The outflow of ignorance refers to the ignorance of all three realms. The outflow of views refers to the five views, namely the view of the aggregates, the view of holding to extremes, the wrong view, the view of holding to views as supreme, and the view of holding to ethics and asceticism as supreme.
