Chapter One: Commentary on Omniscience Chapter One: Commentary on Omniscience Here, first, omniscience is to be explained. The first of these is called the entity of bodhicitta. Citta is intention and desire, such as wanting to go, the intention to go, the mind to go, so it is said. Generating that is also generating for the sake of others, because it is the most excellent and special. The aim should be perfect and complete enlightenment. Therefore, its definition is: Bodhicitta is for the sake of others, desiring perfect and complete enlightenment. Thus it is said. Desire, faith, and manifest desire are synonyms. Whoever has the desire for perfect and complete enlightenment is called that. Its entity is this itself, which means wanting that. What has changed from oneself to another is the other, that is, all sentient beings. Their benefit is benefit, that is, reaching complete and thorough nirvana, up to unsurpassed enlightenment. Therefore, it is for that purpose or for that reason. Thus, it is shown to be for the benefit of others, and the desire aimed at perfect and complete enlightenment is the definition of bodhicitta. That and that are like the sutra, expressed in a concise and extensive way. "As in the sutra" means just like this Prajnaparamita, not deviating from the sutra, which is the meaning of the definition. If it is said that the sutra abandons the introduction and distinguishes the definition of bodhicitta with four kinds of explanations, and also divides the benefit for oneself and others into many ways, without particularly emphasizing many goals, and speaks of it as the definition of wanting, then this is not as in the sutra. Therefore, it is said: That and that are like the sutra, expressed in a concise and extensive way. In the sutra, that, that is, perfect and complete enlightenment itself, is spoken of in a concise and extensive way with the first two words. That, that is, for the benefit of others, is spoken of in a concise and extensive way with the next two words. There are also others in the sutra.
