Therefore, the nature of these sixteen moments is the path of seeing, empowered by omniscience. To show these sixteen moments in order, it is said: Form is neither permanent nor impermanent, Beyond extremes and pure, Unborn and unceasing, and so forth, Like space, abandoning attachment, Liberated from complete grasping, Unspeakable in its essence, Because this meaning cannot Be given to others through expression, And makes one without an object of focus, Extremely pure, no disease arises, Evil destinies are cut off, and the fruit is To be realized, the nature of non-conceptuality, Not connected with signs, For objects, names, and both, Wisdom without arising Is the moment of omniscience. Thus, "Form is neither permanent nor impermanent." That is, form, feeling, and so forth, up to the ultimate of all-knowing, are naturally luminous and, because they lack a nature to be examined, are neither permanent nor impermanent. This is the patience of knowing the Dharma of suffering. "Beyond extremes" means that because it is free from examination, it transcends the two extremes of permanence and annihilation. This is the knowledge of the Dharma of suffering. "Pure" means that form and so forth are naturally completely pure. This is the acceptance of the subsequent knowledge of suffering. "Unborn and unceasing, and so forth" means that form and so forth, up to the ultimate of all-knowing, are unborn and unceasing, without complete affliction and without purification. This is the subsequent knowledge of suffering. "Like space" means that form and so forth, up to the ultimate of all-knowing, are liberated from all elaborations of imputation because of their luminosity. This is the patience of knowing the Dharma of the origin. "Abandoning attachment" means that form and so forth are naturally completely pure and, like space, are without defilement. This is the subsequent knowledge of the origin. "Liberated from complete grasping" means that form and so forth, like space, are without grasping or being grasped. This is the acceptance of the subsequent knowledge of the origin. "Unspeakable in its essence" means that form and so forth are naturally clear without conceptualization.

Because (it) is unspeakable, without speaker and spoken, this is the subsequent knowledge of the origin. Combining "with speech" and "liberation," the objects to be spoken and the causes of speaking, such as form, etc., are liberation. Regarding "if" what is said is that because the cause used to express this meaning cannot be obtained from other things, therefore, form, etc., are unspeakable and without cause, this is the Dharma-knowledge forbearance of cessation. "Not focusing" means that form, etc., are not made the object of thought, this is the Dharma-knowledge of cessation. "Extremely pure" refers to form, etc., because in reality there is not even a trace of impurity, so it is extremely pure, this is the subsequent knowledge forbearance of cessation. "No disease arises" means that form, etc., are extremely pure, so diseases, etc., will not arise, this is the subsequent knowledge of cessation. "Cutting off evil destinies" means cutting off evil destinies, that is, transcending evil destinies. Just because of believing that form, etc., are extremely pure, evil destinies will be cut off, this is the Dharma-knowledge forbearance of the path. "Non-discrimination" means that the discrimination of the arising and ceasing of all phenomena has ceased. Nevertheless, just because of believing that form, etc., are extremely pure, it is the Dharma-knowledge of the path. "Manifesting the fruit" and "unrelated to characteristics" mean that in order to manifest the fruits of the Buddhas, etc., completely abandoning the causes and characteristics of discrimination, this is the subsequent knowledge forbearance of the path. "Things, names, and the two," and "knowledge does not arise," among them, "things" refers to the objects to be spoken, that is, the entity of meaning. "Name" refers to the speaker, that is, words. "The two" refers to the grasped and the grasper. "Knowledge" refers to the knowledge by which the spoken meaning is understood, which does not arise in ultimate truth. The word "and" is a conjunction, that is, the objects to be spoken, the speaker, the grasped and the grasper do not arise, this is the subsequent knowledge of the path, and "the moment of omniscience." These are all of the Bodhisattva, this is the nature of the path of seeing.

It should be realized in sixteen moments. How do the Shravakas realize it? Regarding suffering, such as the forbearance of knowing the Dharma, it is thus spoken of as the path of the Shravakas. Regarding omniscience, Bodhisattvas should know the path of the Shravakas, but not directly realize it. Therefore, the path of meditation is not taught here. In order to teach in an extensive manner the three aspects of omniscience and then summarize, it is said: Thus this and also this, and this is the three. This is the three states, completely and fully taught. This means that, according to the reasoning as spoken, 'this and' refers to all-aspects omniscience. 'Also this' refers to the knowledge of the path. 'And this is' refers to all-knowing, which is the complete teaching of the three chapters. From the commentary on the Ornament for Clear Realization, called 'Part of Fame', is the commentary on the third chapter. Commentary on the Third Chapter.
