A Difficult Commentary on Understanding the Aspects of the Path. A Difficult Commentary on Understanding the Aspects of the Path. The cause of this is precisely the understanding of the aspects of the path, which, through the distinctions of stages such as warmth, appropriately ripens both oneself and others. The path of a solitary student, with the merits of this and others, sees the path of great benefit, acting and believing, praising and honoring and extolling, dedicating and rejoicing, attending to the unsurpassed, accomplishing and being utterly pure, thus this path of meditation, of the wise bodhisattvas, knowing the path is taught as such. Clearly: World-Honored One, why is it that bodhisattvas know the aspects of the path? The Blessed One replied: Subhuti, A bodhisattva should generate all paths, whether it is the path of a Hearer, the path of a Pratyekabuddha, or the path of a Buddha, and should know all paths, which is what is extensively taught. Therein, a bodhisattva, through the door of objects of focus, fully understands the path of the Hearers in stages such as warmth, in a way that does not focus, which is "whatever is in form," etc., because it focuses on the aggregates such as form, it is said as such. Regarding "abiding in the nature of phenomena," the nature of phenomena is emptiness, because it abides in that, one should not think of not abiding in form, etc. By negating and establishing abiding in form, etc., and emptiness, it shows the understanding of the stages of warmth and peak in order. Through the door of antidotes to permanence, etc., it is "permanent and," etc., this is merely a brief representation, but one should also fully understand the aspects of arising, etc. Such is understanding the stage of forbearance. Through the door of results, it is "obtaining results and," etc., obtaining results is present in the stage of learning. The mention of Pratyekabuddhas and Fully Awakened Buddhas is to know how one who does not abide even in the supreme can abide in another, such is the Dharma of

This is the difference in the state of allowance. Similarly, the difference in the state of the path of seeing and meditation should also be included in the distinction of realizing the fruit. Furthermore, why does it not abide in the Buddha-ground? Because the ground of the complete and perfect Buddha is the characteristic of not abiding in all dharmas, therefore, the Bodhisattva should also not abide in anything like that. Therefore, it is said, "How to lead," and so on. The unconditioned realm is the realm of Nirvana. The conditioned is Samsara. The term "in the place" is a synonym for the place of the nature of the conditioned and the unconditioned. The term "place" means that it is not inverted, and it is not shaken by the opposing sides. To show that, it is said, "No place is a place," and so on, and the meaning is easy to understand. Here, it should be understood that the unspeakable nature that is not the object of discrimination is the cause of non-abiding. Based on this, it is said, "Son of the gods, if that is the case, then there is not even a little bit of teaching in this." Such is the distinction of abandoning the discrimination of grasping onto the path of the self-Buddha. From this, it should be understood that it is more superior than the path of the Hearers, because they have not abandoned the discrimination of what is grasped. Because this knowledge of the aspect of the path is shown as the reality of the cause of the three Bodhis, therefore, to show that it is the object of all paths, it is said, "Who am I," and so on. What is called not relying on this patience is a synonym for not having faith in the path as it is. Examples of this are given, and it is easy to understand. If all dharmas are unspeakable, then is it not unreasonable to speak of the Dharma and so on as slander and so on? Therefore, it is said, "Teaching the Dharma," and so on. In this way, although things are unspeakable, whatever discrimination there is, such as speaking, is conventionally true, but not ultimately, because everything is like an illusion, and there is no difference in non-existence. This refers to the realization of the self-Buddha.
