Seeking equipoise, thus practicing. In the gradual process, the six perfections, the six recollections, and the thirteen aspects of all phenomena being without inherent existence are meditated upon in sequence from the path of joining to the ten bhumis, hence it is called gradual. Among these, the six perfections encompass all ten perfections. Among these, the six recollections are the six recollections of sequentially remembering the qualities of the Buddha, Dharma, Sangha, generosity, discipline, and meditation. This is lost below the seventh bhumi. In relation to this, it is to remedy the loss. To gain mastery is to meditate in sequence for the sake of attaining the ten bhumis. Among these, below the seventh bhumi is a part, so it is collectively called the peak. In relation to that remedy of loss, it is called the remedy of the loss of the peak. The characteristic one, in the state of the ten bhumis, there is no loss. In relation to that, one gradually meditates for the sake of gaining mastery. Thus, the gradual one is of two kinds. Among these, the so-called remedy of loss is for those with dull faculties. Meditating for the sake of gaining mastery is for those with middling faculties. From the complete perfection of the gradual, the manifestation of enlightenment in a single instant is called the culmination of practice, and from this arises the manifestation of enlightenment in a single instant. That which is taught as the manifestation of enlightenment in a single instant is because all the paths previously meditated upon are perfected in a single instant, hence it is called the manifestation of enlightenment in a single instant. That also has four aspects: non-resultant, resultant, without characteristics, and non-dual. In the second instant, the resultant Dharmakaya arises, so after that, the Dharmakaya is taught. Among these, the body of the Buddha is of four kinds: Svabhavikakaya (essence body), Sambhogakaya (enjoyment body), Nirmanakaya (emanation body), and Dharmakaya (truth body). Among these, the Svabhavikakaya is naturally pure. The Dharmakaya is pure from defilements. The Sambhogakaya is enjoying the Dharma together with the masters of the ten bhumis. The Nirmanakaya appears to the Shravakas and others, and constantly benefits sentient beings with various forms.

That is how it is. Moreover, because it arises from the Dharmakaya, it is called the Dharmakaya and its activities. Thus, there are four kayas. Some say that since Dharmata and Dharmakaya are the same, there are only three kayas. This is not so. Because the Svabhavikakaya has no activities, it is not reasonable to call it having activities. Therefore, because it is said to have activities, it is considered that there are four kayas. Thus, there are eight occasions. Among them, there are two orders of the eight occasions: the order of teaching and the order of arising. Among them, the order of teaching is to first teach omniscience as the fruit, and then explain the cause later. The order of arising is that the four applications, such as complete manifestation, etc., are first taught by the distinctions of its application, its excellence, its order, and its limit, and the fruit Dharmakaya is taught later. Among them, the order in which one person practices the eight occasions is that after ascertaining the three knowledges with the wisdom of hearing, in the complete manifestation of enlightenment, from aspect to skillful means, all paths and the order of paths are determined by the wisdom of thinking. From the generation of bodhicitta down to the supreme dharma, practicing the application of all paths is complete manifestation. Complete manifestation, practicing the application of the order of all paths, the completion of all paths is the peak. If it is lost, in order to restore it, or even if it is not lost, in order to control it, meditating in order is gradual. Thus, meditating in order, the complete manifestation of enlightenment arises in one instant. In the second instant after that, the fruit Dharmakaya arises. This is the order of practice.
