Chapter Eight: Expressing the Manifest and Complete Enlightenment of the Dharmakaya. Chapter Eight: Expressing the Manifest and Complete Enlightenment of the Dharmakaya. As previously stated, the nature of the eight realizations is to understand the Perfection of Wisdom. Therefore, starting from the initial stage of practice through the gateway of preliminary instructions, the order of seeking is shown, which is what is said in "Furthermore, Subhuti," and so on. The Bodhisattva is always one who has correctly taken the mind of enlightenment and possesses the accumulation of merits such as generosity, because he follows the sound; and because he is engaged in abandoning objects of focus. At that time, he dwells on the accumulation path, so it is evident that he is diligent in seeking instructions on the limbs of the progressive stages of discernment, and now he is the master of the tenth ground. "Not being particularly attached to the body" means thinking of giving away bones and legs, and so on. "Not looking at life" means being willing to give away the heart. Regarding "gain, respect, and fame," gain is abundant wealth. Respect is being cherished greatly. Fame is spreading in all directions. Initially on the accumulation path, at that time, in the continuum of Dharma, in order to obtain peace and vast wisdom from the Buddhas, one will receive vast instructions. As it is said, because one has not obtained the samadhi of the continuum of Dharma, one hears sounds in the sky. "Do not look to the left" means to the left side. "Not to the east," and so on, means not to the directions such as the east. "In any way, do not deviate from self, and not from the perishable collection," and so on, the things that do not appear, such as self, are because they are not recognized as existing. The selfless things such as form that abide on the path of seeing are because they are recognized as non-existent, in any way, do not deviate from those, go like that, that is the meaning. "Will deteriorate" means will regress. Creating obstacles to samadhi, creating physical fatigue, and so on.

All these ways of preventing (evil deeds) are, by way of approximate symbolism, like this: for all samadhi itself, laziness, forgetting the object, sinking, excitement, as well as non-effort and effort, the six faults, the wisdom perfection of samadhi, which has eight actions of abandonment as an antidote, should be contemplated and go to the east. In this way, it will be heard, this is the instruction given. Like this, through the faith of having great trust in the qualities of samadhi, the yogi will generate the desire. Then, through the power of abiding, he will begin diligence. Then, through the power of diligence, he will generate extreme pliancy of body and mind. Then, from the extreme pliancy of body and mind, laziness will cease. Therefore, the four, faith and so on, are for the purpose of abandoning laziness. Mindfulness is the antidote to forgetting the object, because it correctly abides on the object. Vigilance is the antidote to sinking and excitement, because it abandons sinking by remembering extremely joyful things, such as the qualities of the Buddha and so on; it abandons excitement by remembering unpleasant things, such as impermanence and so on. When sinking and excitement have not been completely pacified, non-effort is a fault, therefore, in order to counteract it, one should become accustomed to contemplating. After sinking and excitement have been pacified, when the mind no longer wavers from the object, and without obvious fabrication, it naturally enters, then effort is also a fault, because it distracts the mind. Therefore, in order to counteract it, one should meditate on equanimity. This is what is said. Because he received the correct instruction, therefore, for the sake of the commitment, he said, "It should be done like that." This commitment is in accordance with reason. In order to dispel the doubt of "Why is it so slow?", he greeted with the words "I want to illuminate all beings" and so on, which is easy to understand. By indicating selflessness through the way of the person, and then indicating selflessness through the way of phenomena, as it is said in "Sadāprarudita heard the sound" and so on. Completely knowing
