Let alone abiding in the stage of detachment from desire. Even if all beings in the three-thousand great thousand world systems were to abide in the stage of detachment from desire, their merit would not even come close to one percent of the merit of a Bodhisattva generating the first thought of enlightenment. It would not even come close to one part in a thousand, one part in a hundred thousand, or one part in a billion trillion. It cannot even be compared by example or cause. Why is that? Because those who abide in the stage of detachment from desire arise from Bodhisattvas, but Bodhisattva Mahasattvas do not arise from the stage of detachment from desire. Let alone all beings in the three-thousand great thousand world systems abiding in the stage of detachment from desire.

They are not those of little merit. Even if all sentient beings in the three-thousand great thousand world systems were to abide in the state of Pratyekabuddha, let alone if all those sentient beings in the three-thousand great thousand world systems were to enter the irreversible stage of Bodhisattvas, their merit would not even come close to one hundredth part of the merit of a Bodhisattva entering Bodhi. It would not even come close to one thousandth part, one hundred thousandth part, or even one hundred million trillionth part. It is also unbearable between example and cause. Why is that? Those who arise from Bodhisattvas are those who have entered the irreversible stage of Bodhisattvas, and those who arise from those who have entered the irreversible stage of Bodhisattvas are not Bodhisattva Mahasattvas. Even if all sentient beings in the three-thousand great thousand world systems were to enter the irreversible stage of Bodhisattvas, let alone if all those sentient beings in the three-thousand great thousand world systems were to enter Bodhi, their merit would not even come close to one hundredth part of the merit of the Tathagata Arhat Samyaksambuddha. It would not even come close to one thousandth part, one hundred thousandth part, or even one hundred million trillionth part. It is also unbearable in number, unbearable in part, unbearable in counting, unbearable in example, and unbearable in cause. This is called the Samadhi of Uninterruptedness. O Lord, when a Bodhisattva Mahasattva first generates the mind, what should he keep in mind? The Lord said: He should keep in mind the All-Knowingness, which is the characteristic of the All-Knowingness, which is Buddhahood. O Lord, what is the entity of the All-Knowingness? What is the object? What is the power? What is the aspect? What is the characteristic? The Lord said: Subhuti, the so-called All-Knowingness is without entity, characteristic

Without, without characteristics, without action, without birth, without arising. Subhuti, if someone says this, what is the object of all-knowingness? What is the self-mastery? What is the aspect? What is the nature? Subhuti, the object of all-knowingness is without things, the master is mindfulness, the aspect is peaceful, and the nature is without nature. Subhuti, this refers to the object of all-knowingness. This refers to self-mastery. This refers to the aspect. This refers to the nature. These refer to the object, master, and aspect of all-knowingness. These refer to the uninterrupted samadhi. World-Honored One, please tell me, is it only all-knowingness that has no things? Or does form also have no things? Are feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness also without things? Are the six sense bases, realms, and dependent origination also without things? Are all the perfections, all the emptinesses, and the thirty-seven wings of enlightenment also without things? Are the noble truths, meditations, immeasurables, as well as the formless attainments, the eight liberations, the nine sequential abidings, emptiness, signlessness, wishlessness, supernormal knowledges, samadhi, dharani gates, the ten powers of the Tathagata, the four fearlessnesses, the four analytical knowledges, and the eighteen unshared qualities of the Buddha also without things? Are great loving-kindness, great compassion, great joy, and great equanimity also without things? Are the conditioned realm and the unconditioned realm also without things?
