It is not so. Asked: O Bhagavan, does the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, have mastery over the realm of all dharmas? The Bhagavan said: Subhuti, if the equality of dharmas were also other, and the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, were also another, then the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One, would also have mastery over the realm of all dharmas. Subhuti, whatever is the equality of dharmas of ordinary beings, and those who follow by faith, and those who follow by dharma, and the eighth ones, and the stream-enterers, and the once-returners, and the non-returners, and the Arhats, and the solitary Buddhas, and the Bodhisattvas, and the Tathagatas, that is a single equality; there is no difference between equality and inequality. Thus, whatever is the equality of ordinary beings, and whatever is the equality of all the noble ones, that is a single equality; in a single equality, there is no distinction to be made, saying, "This is an ordinary being, this is a stream-enterer, this is a once-returner, a non-returner, an Arhat, a solitary Buddha, a Bodhisattva, this is the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One," because those discriminations are not seen in equality. Asked: O Bhagavan, since all dharmas are in equality, those discriminations are not seen, saying, "This is an ordinary being, this is a stream-enterer, this is a once-returner, a non-returner, an Arhat, a solitary Buddha, a Bodhisattva, this is the Tathagata, the Arhat, the Perfectly Awakened One." Therefore, ordinary beings, those who follow by faith, those who follow by dharma, the eighth ones, the stream-enterers, the once-returners, the non-returners, the Arhats, the solitary Buddhas, the Bodhisattvas...

and the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, will be without distinction. The Blessed One said: Subhūti, it is so, it is so. Because in the equality of all dharmas, there is no difference between ordinary beings, those who follow by faith, those who follow by dharma, the eighth ones, the stream-enterers, the once-returners, the non-returners, the Arhats, the solitary Buddhas, the Bodhisattvas, and the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas. He reported: Blessed One, since in the equality of all dharmas, there is no difference between ordinary beings, those who follow by faith, those who follow by dharma, the eighth ones, the stream-enterers, the once-returners, the non-returners, the Arhats, the solitary Buddhas, the Bodhisattvas, and the Tathāgatas, Arhats, perfectly enlightened Buddhas, then, Blessed One, for what reason do the Buddha Jewel, the Dharma Jewel, the Sangha Jewel, these three jewels appear in the world? The Blessed One said: Subhūti, what do you think? Is the Buddha Jewel different, is the Dharma Jewel different, is the Sangha Jewel different, and is the equality of dharma also different? He reported: Blessed One, as I understand the meaning of what the Blessed One has said, the Buddha Jewel is not different, the Dharma Jewel is not different, the Sangha Jewel is not different, and the equality of dharma is not different. Blessed One, what is the Buddha Jewel, what is the Dharma Jewel, what is the Sangha Jewel, that is the equality of dharma, all these dharmas are neither possessed nor not possessed, without form, not demonstrable, without obstruction, of one nature, that is, without nature. Thus, these dharmas without nature, this is the ordinary being, this is by faith.
