Having abandoned these agitations, conceits, blazes, and elaborations, one dwells, closely cultivating and frequently practicing with a mind free from elaboration. Subhuti, when a bodhisattva mahasattva practices the perfection of wisdom in that way, he himself has no attachment to any dharma, and he thoroughly establishes all sentient beings in non-attachment. This is not the ultimate truth of worldly convention. Asked: Blessed One, the dharma that the Tathagata has fully awakened to, that...

Is enlightenment fully realized in the language of convention? Or is enlightenment fully realized in the ultimate sense? The Blessed One said: The Tathagata's saying, "This Dharma is fully enlightened," is a worldly expression. There is nothing to be seen in saying that this Dharma is fully enlightened by such a Dharma. Why is that? Just as it is, the saying that this Dharma is fully enlightened by such a Dharma is visible, but neither of the two can be attained or realized. Question: Blessed One, if neither of the two can be attained or realized, then can it be attained or realized by not being two (non-duality)? The Blessed One said: Neither can be attained or realized by the two, nor can it be attained or realized by the non-two. Because for that which has neither two nor non-two, this is called attainment and realization. Why is that? Just like this, saying "This is attainment," "This is realization" is elaboration. The equality of Dharma has no elaboration, and the absence of elaboration is the equality of Dharma. Question: Blessed One, what is it that is called the equality of Dharma for the nature of Dharma without substance? The Blessed One said: That which has no substance, nor is it without substance, has no self-nature, and is completely inexpressible, this is the equality of Dharma. The equality of Dharma is inexpressible. Apart from the equality of Dharma, there is no Dharma that can be an object. The equality of Dharma is transcendent of all Dharmas. The equality of Dharma is not known by children, nor by noble ones, nor by any Dharma, and is not an object. Question: Blessed One, is the equality of Dharma not also the object of the Tathagata? The Blessed One said: Subhuti, the equality of Dharma is not the object of all noble ones, whether they are Stream-enterers, Once-returners, Non-returners, Arhats, Solitary Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, or the Tathagatas.
